It is generally a business concept - I suppose it could be used by the military - which describes the competitive forces of a specific business's market environment. It places the business in the supply chain in terms of what is upstream of them in terms of supply and downstream in terms of their distributors. It also examines barriers to entry of a market segment, and the business's competitors and the substitutes (different products) that consumers could buy instead. What did you want it for?
