Does anyone know if it's legal or illegal to put a padlock on a first aid kit in the work place in Canada?

Links with info would be grand! Thanks.

technically it's not illegal, after-all kits are usually placed in rooms that are locked due to security issues. but in reality they should be kept open to everyone (including the public) in the case that a true emergency should occur. seconds do matter in the event of an emergency, it takes an average of 70 seconds to die from a severe wound and i doubt you can find a key, unlock a padlock, unwrap a dressing, isolate the wound, apply pressure on the artery above the wound, then (if available) start an iv infusion. not an ideal situation as you can see. therefore i would mention it to my supervisor and at least attempt to have it readily accessible.

I have no idea about the legality. but i certainly do know its not smart. First aid kits should be kept visible and accesible in case of emergencies. Seconds matter in an emergency. putting a padlock might interfere when you need to access the box quickly
