I don't have any birds...but i recently went to a small local zoo that had parrots. My daughter and I were looking at the beauty of them. I had my Nikon D50 and I was shooting away and talking to them. We were saying: your so pretty, and want a cracker? and they said it back. Until all of a sudden, my flash went off....OMG they go so pissed at me!!! I thought my daughter was going to cry....I felt like I was in a Hitchcock movie..and I truly felt bad that my flash went off.
We have visited and admired many pet stores with lovable parrots...that unfortunately were too expensive for my pocket book. But we do love to pet and watch them talk away.

I have two Quakers, Chicken (20 months) and Chewy (7 months). I can't even remember all the things they say, but here is all that I can remember.
Hi
Hello
What are you doing
Mama's home
Gimme a kiss
Good bird
Good boy
Good Chicken
Good Chewy
Come here
Step up
Popcorn (which they love!)
Chicken, chicken, chicken (he obviously gets into trouble often)
In addition, Chicken loves to imitate sounds. He can do all the buttons on the microwave and the stove, the sound of water dripping from a tap, the sound a spoon makes going into coffee grounds, the squeaky cabinet door, and many others. He does these at the appropriate times (he makes the water sound when I bring his bath dish). Both birds laugh whenever I do, and they make 'kissy' noises. Chewy says 'Gimme a kiss', makes the kissy noise, then says 'Good bird!'. He knows that will get him a laugh.

I have two goffins cockatoos.
Boo, the older one, doesn't talk much (though he understands ALOT and follows requests/does tricks). He laughs and says "come here and step up" when he wants me to come in and get him.
Swift, the 2 year old, says: come here, step up, pet Boo, love Boo, cuddle Boo, you're a cockatwo-three, big baby, hey Boo, stop it, awwwwwww... and she also whistles!
Both are much more expressive with their body language than words though :)
