I wouldn't waste your money on Petsmart type places for training. They're very expensive. I found an excellent trainer, who was not listed in any phone book by contacting a local agility club in our area and asking for suggestions. The trainer we are with is way less expensive than the Petsmart/supply places that offer it and IMO, she's better. If you contact a local agility or obedience club in your area, they will make good suggestions for your to persue. They will recommend trainers they have worked with themselves, trust and know are good trainers from this personal experience.

Our trainer goes all the way to Obedience competition training classes, which really fine tunes a dog, even if you aren't looking to compete and we only pay $50 for a 6 week class. Much cheaper than Petsmarts!

You can begin training right away with your puppy and enroll in a puppy kindergarten class first. This will help you with all the basic commands (you and your puppy need to learn alot) and will prepare you to go forward. I'd definitely suggest a few beyond the PK class to help you fine tune.

Good Luck!

The most important thing to know is this: Legit classes will not take puppies until they have all of their shots! So when you have all of their shots you will be good to go. So that is normally around 8 weeks. Try Petco, they have a training class where they teach you and your dog to work together. Ive seen them do wonders!

She has to be current on all her vaccines, including the one for kennel cough. That usually means around 4-5 months of age.

I don't know where you live so I can't recommend anyone. Sorry.

You can research dog trainers on the internet and then go sit in on a session and watch how they interact with the pets and owners.

Pet Smart have classes often. I suggest you try there or call your community college and even check your local paper or yellow pages for classes. I can't remember but I think my dog was 3 months when I started his training.

8 weeks of age...but most puppy training centers require that your puppy be up to date with all its vaccinations and u will hav eto show vet certificates...even petsmart...but the general rule in training is the younger the better..puppies go thru different developmental stages in life when they absorb different info quicker in different times so going earlier will just make the process easier

6wks or older. The sooner the better and besure its in a pleasant way. Use only happy voices and smiles, this will make the training more of a want to and not a have to. pleasant experience= positive retaining of info

if he is 8 weeks you should start training asap and a good place to do that is at pets mart and if your dog is more that 6 months old he will be very hard to train because they are lazy and have adapted to the space around then and it makes them weary!!!

as soon as they can be away from there mommy, then you should get the pup into training as soon as you possibly can because then they will be trained to do right and not do wrong at an early age.
