"Removing snarls and rats nest from hair is another lesson in patience. Find a really sturdy LARGE toothed comb. Beginning at the hair tips, not at the scalp, slowly and gently unravel the hair bit by bit until it is all free. Now apply vinegar to the hair and gently comb the hair through for about ten minutes to close down the damaged hair cuticles. Rinse -shampoo -rinse - apply a smoothing conditioner or cream rinse, and rinse again."

Snarl Hair

Try using a wide tooth comb, and start at the the bottom part, working your way through the snarl, gently... down & out, down & out. If it's a large wad you might have a good friend look at it, if this doesn't help.
Helpful Hint: Avoid snarl problems by brushing your hair before and after activities such as sports, sleep, and wearing hats. Use a hair-friendly band to keep hair smooth.

My hair is real fine and I have problems with big snarls in back at the neck line. I always use hair conditioner for that and once the snarl is out, I wash my hair.

Brush, Brush, Brush.

Or wash your hair with lots of conditioner. I have short hair, so I don't have to deal with the snarls that I got with my waist long hair I used to have, and then gave to Locks for Love.

Wash your hair, put conditioner in it and comb it out. This could take hours. Get your mom or friends to help you. Start from the ends, and work on freeing individual strands of hair to make the tangle smaller and smaller until it is gone.
I hope I helped!

wash your hair with mayonnaise... sounds gross but it works.. then you can just shampoo like normal to get the smell out and its easier to brush.
