The strand of barbed wire will not climb the tree at all it will stay at the same height as long as the tree is fully developed when it happens, after a certain point the tree only grows out and no longer up so it will stay put

depends on the tree, and whether it grows any or not in that time. If it grows to the degree that the point where the wire is nailed to moves up at all, then obviously it won't be the same height. There are also some other considerations, such as whether there is any sinking or shifting in the ground that the tree is planted in as well.

like most everyone else is saying.. the same.. but dont do that because trees also tend to grow out and the living tissue of a tree is basically on the outside.. so eventually you will strangle and kill the tree

Depends on the type of tree. A palm trees base or trunk continues to grow upward.
