You cannot get an ID card until he is in boot camp. Even then, depending on the branch he is leaving for, it doesn’t happen overnight. Within his first week at boot camp he will go through ID card issue. Make sure he takes a copy of your marriage certificate with him. It should already be in his record at MEPS, but I would take a copy anyway (same for kids birth certs). The link to the form (above) will need to be signed by him before he ships. Once he completes the ID card issue at boot camp your family will be enrolled in D.E.E.R.S system. You can then take the DD Form 1172 that he signed to any military base, i.e. Navy Reserve Centers, Army NG bases in your city and get your ID card.

You will probably not get you ID card until he is graduated from basic. You will be in the Deers system and covered for medical/dental, you just won't have the ID card. In some cases, I have assisted young wives in getting their ID cards after about 5 weeks in basic. This ais rare and depends on how fast the dependent information is entered.

Once your husband actually arrives at basic training and is in an active duty status, you will be eligible to receive a military dependent ID card.

You should get your ID card as soon as your husband gets sworn in as a member of the military, and as soon as he ask personnel. The recruiter can also answer your question and provide you and your husband any information regarding spouse's ID card.

Your husband will get his military ID Card when he enters
basic training and he is suppose to fill out paperwork for
yours at a later date.

Your husband will be issued his in basic training. You prob. wont be able to get one until he graduates basic. Pending on which branch, he will then be sent to a tech. school for his new job. You will be given the opportunity to get yours then. He will be very busy and in a VERY controled environment during basic.
Good luck, and thank your husband for his service.

If your husband is considered active duty you are eligible for military benifits now. Have your husband (or you) call his recruiter. If you have any other military questions it is best to talk to your recruiter about your situation - that is part of his job.
Welcome to your new miltary family (and it is a family!)
