Teaching preschool can be very stressfull. The number of students depends of the state requirements. For 4 year olds it's usually 10 kids to 1 adult. Most classrooms have up to 20 kids with one qualified teacher and an aide. Depending on how the teacher runs the classroom, determines how loud and stressfull it is. There needs to be a daily lesson plan as well as a behavior plan with individual goals for the children depending on their needs. A well organized, experienced teacher can make a world of difference.

Usually a quite comfortable classroom, much like those you remember from grade school. There is probably a kids' table that is about 1 1/2 feet from the floor with several chairs. A comfy rug is usually somewhere for kids to sit on during story time. Many learning toys will be present, such as large Legos and blocks. The classroom may have a TV and a VCR or DVD player; these can be very useful when combined with a rowdy class and a Barney tape. The classroom is usually quite loud, especially if it has a class of more than ten. A whiteboard, letter, and number posters are usually where the learning area is. The teacher carries out duties all around the classroom- playing dolls with the lone wolf of the class, reading stories, teaching ABCs and 123s, and giving out art projects.

Ask about the day's schedule and what cirriculum they use, if any. Some preschools are more kindergarten prep and others focus more on socialization and following rules. The best ones work on both. As far as environment; what kind of environment are you looking for? Do you want your child in a relaxed or overly structured environment? (Some kids work better in one rather than the other.) Try to get a feel for how the teacher relates to the kids as well as to the parents. Does he or she seem uptight about the way your child plays with the toys. You want someone who will teach them to respect the toys and put them away, but not too uptight to let them enjoy them. There are two different safety aspects to look for: 1)Are all of the toys age appropriate and safe for that age group? Are the teachers hands on with the kids during more difficult projects? Does there seem to be enough supervision for the amount of children so that most accidents can be avoided? 2) What are the precautions and procedures for preventing strangers from gaining access to the children? Does the school have a policy in place to limit who can pick up a child from school?

They should be able to have a room large enough to allow uninhibited movement with an appropriate ratio of child to teachers (different in each state).
On a personnel level the environment should be a place they want to go to. There should be professionalism as well. there should also be a place where a stressed out teacher can go to settle themselves.

Well, I'm surprised they can survive!
I cant imagine how they do it to withstand it.
Little children pulling her dress to get attention, fighting over about who has the best pants,
and some jumping on desks, but the worst is that when the teachers yell, the children begin to cry!
Poor teachers!

most are in classrooms usually divided by age, with one or two aides and 24 kids! They are busy jam packed rooms that usually smell like paste and playdough and the funnest places in the world to learn in if you have a good teacher!

Wow! Learning environment can be many things. Most important is that you enjoy being in the class as well as students.
