A lot of people think the opposite of love is hate. However, it's really not. It's apathy which means indifference; lack of concern.

Hate

Apathy.

In my opinion, love indicates some feeling about the person or thing. In this case it is a good thing. Hate indicates there is still some feeling involved. (Think "Love/Hate Relationship")

Apathy, on the other hand is not ignorance - it's not that one doesn't know about the object in question; it's that one does know about it, but has absolutely no feeling about it at all. "Don't care, it doesn't even exist enough for me to consider thinking about it."

Indifference - love is total involvement with someone. The opposite of that is total lack of involvement.
