It all points to the Church wanting to erase all trace of Marie Magdalene and her influence during Jesus time. They wanted to keep women outside the church and also forgot to mention that the first one to see Jesus resurrected was Marie and that she was considered as one of his disciples. Why you think Peter hated her?

At first there were several small manuscripts circulating. Some of these were thought to be of a less than inspired nature. Some person put forth the idea that there should be a book of approved manuscripts under one cover. Nobody listened, at first, but eventually people began to think it was a good idea. Problem is there were some pretty not cool methods used to choose like the ones that were popular and the haed dude thought there should only be 4 gospels because there were 4 directions , north south east and west. Those gospels noted to be gnostic were disapproved of by the elite and so all of them were ruled out. All in all it was a faulty process but the important thing was that God had His influence as well as some wise people. I have read many of those other manuscripts and I do not see any truthes that are not covered in the Bible we have. Thats how God often works---in spite of us.
there are those who would use this picking process to try to say that the work is not inspired. Many of the older manuscripts are preseved unto this day and there have been no changes except trying to translate into the language of those current times. If you doubt what I say take the time to read them all, and you will see. There have been people who make a big deal that the church thinks this but these other works. Churches disagree over lotsa stuff in indentical books. There is nothing new and nothing different, some things are in addition to and some of that seems not reputable.
Example: There is a big deal made that Jesus kissed Mary Magdeline. In John, it says Jesus revealed a truth to the disciple He loved. People make all kind of twists on this but common sense tells you He had a person different than the others. Seems obvious to me and always knew there was a person there not named and the gospel of Mark (from Peter) leaves out parts that would have honored Mary so it made sense to me that She was that person, but because she was a women in mans times she was left out, but that is not a scriptural direction but is a cultural one.

There was never a Gospel of Mary in the bible. It was made up to discredit the Catholics and other Christains. What people keep forgetting was that Mary was mentioned in the bible, especially as one of the women honored by being the first to know that Jesus had resurrected. People now adays want to think the gospel writers kicked her out, but if they had, then she wouldn't have been mentioned at all. And she never married Jesus, it would have been a big enough to-do and included if it had ever happened. People just want to believe the worst of Christianity and Catholicism that they'll believe any lie.

Yes there was a said gospel. But it did not meet the credentials to make it Canon. In other words, they couldn't verify the source of the book, the intent with which it was written, and from the facts that they knew at the time, the book seemed to be full of errors.
Try not to read too much into the conspiracy theorist. Their agenda is obvious.

Never part of the Bible.
There might have been such a book, probably written between 150 and 300 AD; perhaps gnostic writings.
And don't blame the "old time catholics"; the early Christian Church did declare which books were widely accepted as Inspired ... from the evidences of the first 300 years.

There was a Gospel of Mary but it was never *included* in the original Bible.
There were many religious texts floating around at that time so the theologians of that day decided to make a biblical canon, determining which scriptures were inspired and which were not. the gospel of mary was thought to be most likely a forgery, along with the other gnostic gospels

These books were never part of the Bible. We still have the same Bible as we had 1000 Years before Christ. Nothing has been ripped out or added. There are some difficult passages in the Bible, but still they don't make any difference to the message God gives to us.

Campkid, listen carefully. There are many other "gospels" that people have written (Gospel of Mary, Gospel of Thomas, Gospel of Judas, etc.) that are commonly referred to as the gnostic gospels. They were ALL written hundreds of years after Christ and named "The Gospel of..." in a deceptive way. Mary, Thomas, Judas, etc. had NOTHING to do with them.
The 4 gospels in the Bible (Matthew, Mark , Luke, John) were all written within 30 years of Christ's death by EYEWITNESSES to His life, death, and resurrection. They were written by the author whose name appears in the title!
Nobody kept those other writtings out of the Bible. They were never in the Bible and were never intended by God to be in the Bible. They are also inconsistent with the rest of Scripture.

Yes there are many possibilities. Many old books and gospels of the bible have been destroyed or censored. Just don't get tied up in the legalities of Religion and follow your heart. There is a good Christian web site called www.morelifenow.com, maybe that can help you.

You have to remember that the bible was not written as "The Bible". But rather the bible is a collection of various Christian writings. It is true that when compiling the one holy book, a council of clergy did pick and choose which writings (i.e. books) to leave in, and which ones were left out.
Check out The Gospel of Mary Magdola by Karen L. King.
