Unfortunately, most public shelters will euthanize a kitten carrying leukemia. This protects the other cats in the shelter, who may come into contact with the kitten, who lack immunization. Shelters usually have too many healthy cats available for adoption to hold on to a kitten with a problem as serious a leukemia.
You might have some success trying to find an only cat home for her. Just be very honest about her condition. This cat may run into some serious health trouble in the future. The course of the disease, if it becomes active, is expensive and the suffering for the cat is heartbreaking.
There are some, albeit very few, cat loving agencies out there, who will take a cat with leukemia and care for it for the rest of its natural life. You could do an internet search and try to find one in your area.

First, i say please do not have her euthanized. My fiance once found a kitten and they found out that she also had feline leukemia. They had two other cats at the time, one a kitten. They actually kept the found kitten. The other two cats got thier feline leukemia shots annually from the vet and never had any problems (this is an disease that can be vaccinated against, so please have your other cat taken to the vet for this--it doesnt cost very much).
If you absolutly cant keep her, you still need to keep her warm for the time being in whatever way you can. Either put up ads to find her a home or go to a NO KILL shelter. They will keep her or find a good home for her.
On one more note, i found myself a stray recently and i love him to death. When i took him to the vet for the very first time, i found out he had FIV, something similar to feline leukemia, and was given the option to put him down. I dont have other cats, but i am around some quite often, and since FIV cant be vacinnated against, i now have to be careful to wash my hands before touching any other cats. I really would not have traded this cat for the world, he is just the sweetest cat i have ever had. Remember there is no reason to put the cat down if there is always the opportunity to find that cat a home.

You may have a difficult choice to make here if you can't find her a home. It sounds like you know about feline leukemia and so I won't go into it for you. But if you leave a small kitten outside in the cold it may get ill and die anyway, and if you can't find a home for her where there are no other cats, you may have to put her down. What a hard decision to make!! I wish I could take her but I have a cat already. Sorry. GL

Bring her in, and keep her separate from the other animals. A kitten needs warmth. Letting her get cold, could harm her. Put an add up around the neighbourhood, make it clear in the ad, that this kitten must live "Alone" - if that is too much for you to do, phone the SPCA - this little sweetheart could live a long long time, and if anyone could help find a home for her - it would be your local SPCA.Good Luck, and if I were closer to you I would take her.

It is extremely difficult to find homes for cats with feline leukemia. However, there are a few no-kill shelters that will take them in. Try looking on-line or in the yellow pages for one in your area. Make sure that the shelter is a No-Kill shelter, otherwise the kitten will be euthanized. Personally, I would choose to euthanize, since feline leukemia is so contagious, and homes for these cats are so scarce.

try to find him/her a home, and if not call up the spca and tell them the cat's condition, and they will either keep it or bring it to the vet and take it \, or as much as I hate to say it... they might put it down.... they had to do that with my cat when she had leukimia... cats are my favorite animals... so try the spca.... I am sorry you can not keep it.... good luck.

The test for FIV came back positive from the vet? What was his suggestion?
You can't keep her and you can't let her go back outside. There might be someone who would be willing to adopt her and keep up with the different treatments. Perhaps your vet could steer you in the direction of someone who might be willing to adopt her.
Unfortunately, you might not have a choice by to put her down. The stray I was taking care of tested positive for FIV and I ended up having to do that.

in 2005 i lost my best freind we had to have him put down because all his organs began to shut down but before he took sick he found us a new little kitten she was bearly a month old when he brought her to our place, we had her desexed and she follows my 67 year old father evey where, our old tom cat was bought from a pet shop in 1980 and the only time he whent to a vet was to be desexed we only had to deal with his battle scars, he was quite aloof but was accepting of other animals in our house or should i say his house, dogs corgi, jack russell terrier, and a rottwhieller they were all best mates, its a sad day when you have to have a pet put down but must ask your self what would this dear little sweetys quality of life be like if she became ill again with her leukimia, is there some one out there willing to taker her and giver what she realy needs. me myself i now it would break my heart to do this but to be kind i would have her euthinased

search for a rescue shelter that takes this kind of ill animal or take to vets--is there an injection to prevent activation of the disease--if so, then maybe the 2 can live together--take to vet first.
