The relationship is that many who seek out help end up in a 12 step program. Often, it can lead to a spiritual experience. Many traumatic experiences can, not just chemical dependency.
I know of people who had near-death experiences, gone through a divorce, or switched religions. Sometimes it works that way.

The relationship is that God (Jesus) created our bodies. Chemicals are unnatural to our bodies & cause us harm when we decide to use/abuse those chemicals. The good news is that since God created us & loves us, He is willing to help us if we call on Him with a sincere & repentant heart. Here are a couple of good web-sites for you to check out:
