My cat recently had a seizure. I immediately took the cat to the vet, and my cat had bloodwork done. The cost was $265.00. The vet called me a few days later to report that the cat was border line lyme disease and needed further blood tests done for comfirmation. Today I took the cat in and was charged another $255.00. Is this a normal rate?

I take all my cats to the Humane Society of New York.

My last bill:
Office Visit: $30
Total Body Function Blood Panel: $66
Medical Waste: $1
TOTAL: $97.00

A private practice is way more expensive. My friend spent around $250 the last time she went to one.

Blood tests can be expensive because they are done out of house and not in house. The vet is charged from the lab (we use Antech) and then they have to add a % on to the charge so that they can make some money. Depending on where you live, it could be more or less, it's dependant on the doctor and the lab.
