Try Mace instead because Mace is the outer fruity flesh of the nutmeg nut and has a different but nice taste. You could also try Allspice or cinnamon too.

I do it all the time, if its in a sweet dish. In fact I prefer the taste of cinnamon to nutmeg.

Yeah probably i don't have a lot of nutmeg lying around either cinnamon tastes better anyway :)

I would not reccomend it as your looking at two very different spices. Like, useing salt for pepper. If your out of nutmeg go and purchase some.
