you see, i have very thin and straight hair. i have tried several volumizing shampoos, but they seem to just give me "poof". the way i wear my hair is very similar to catherine zeta-jones' character from the movie chicago, the dark-haired flapper cut of velma kelly, so i just want it to hang, not to poof out. and it's so thin that most hair product doesn't do much but make it either stiff or dirty-looking. that's why i am looking into different shampoos and conditioners. any suggestion would be appreciated, but keep in mind that i do not buy salon products because i don't feel i have enough hair on my head to facilitate paying ten dollars for a bottle of shampoo. so try to keep it at the retail level. good retail, but still retail. i guess i would buy one single salon product, if it was really great. thanks!

I work at a salon, and I know hands down somepeople hair dont hold products, most salon products do work on those types of hair! but since you have really sort hair I will be honest I dont see the point either, so I recomend either to tease your hair and just use hair spray when you want to style it, or sun silk, flat hair actually works good on some of my clients when I ask what they use!

good luck

I have long, fine curly/wavy hair that I straighten with a fat curling iron every day. I need some sort of product that makes my hair heavier so that it doesn't poof. Right now I'm using shampoo then Pantene Smooth & Sleek Conditioner. After the shower, while my hair is still wet, I use ABBA Straightening Balm. I think the 12oz bottle is around $20 but I'm not sure. It makes my hair a teeny tiny bit greasy (but it doesn't look greasy) so that the hairs stick together better and seem heavier. So far it's worked better than any hairspray or mousse type product I've tried before.

*Oh, the ABBA Straightening Balm bottle says 'sold only in professional salons' but I know it's available online. Someone gave me my bottle so I didn't know where it came from.

I have the poofy thing myself but imagine yours times 50 because I have super thick hair! Anyway, the woman at the salon told me to get a "smoothing serum" so I found some stuff at Target last night and it worked pretty good. Its Neutrogena and it smoothes and styles a little, no evidence tho of something in your hair tho. My hair felt softer and didnt tangle easily. I think its a leave in conditioner too...no fancy shampoo really ever works for a long time anyway. The other thing I've read a lot lately too is about those tourmaline products (brushes, hair straighteners) that have some ion feature to them that helps your hair be smoother and shinier.

Try Pantene Smooth & Sleek. I love it and it doesn't weigh my hair down with build-up. It just makes it smooth and soft and straight. A flat iron will help too.

if you do decide to go the way of smoothing shampoos, don't go for the herbal essence stuff. it dried the crap out of my hair and it doesn't smell too great either. so in the end i had poofey stinky dried out hair....yikes!

try buying a defuser for your blowdryer and defuse your hair to make it more bouncy instead of poofy
