I want to be a Journalist. What should I do?

Actually, I would recommend talking to a few journalists you admire and ask them how they got to be where they were. Getting a degree in Journalism or a related topic is only one way to go about becoming a journalist/freelancer/reporter.
Also, why do you want to be a journalist? What is it about journalism that attracts you? Is it the writing? The research? The presentation of the material?
You might consider going to college w/out a major, while at the same time, do an internship at your local paper. Find out what it really means to be a journalist. Volunteer for your school newspaper. Do some of your own investigation into a topic, then submit your work to magazines. Read up at the library about journalism, writing, and freelancing.
Once you've had some experience, and you've seen the journalists in action, as well as talked to them, you'll have a much clearer idea of not only where you want to go, but how to get there.
Don't go to college with a major then expect to get a job. What if it turns out that you study for 4-6 years to be a journalist and you find that you don't like the reality of it? Dive in NOW, and use your experience to find out where you belong. Then, when you decide on your major, you'll be able to target those professors and classes that are the best fit for you.

To be a journalist requires very good writing skills, obviously. But it also means, being able to ask good questions. And it means being able to do good research and know when a source is a good source and when it isn't worth spit.
Don't ask questions about your future on Yahoo! Go to your school's guidance counselor, who can show you books or computer programs that list colleges with good journalism programs. And, why aren't you going to the local paper (or TV)and asking the guys who are journalists right now for their recommendations! They are they experts, not the Yahoos!
You cannot be a successful journalist unless you are able to dig for information. So start learning to dig!

Enroll in Journalism or Communications courses. There will be some basics like english, writing and editing and proofing. Then you can take electives like feature writing or news production or sports writing. Also-work for the student paper. This will help you get a job later on.

Apply to the local community college or University, seek out a counselor. Major in journalism, English & History. ALso nowadays, learning some tools that will help you establishing your own blogs is also a good practice. Good luck

Find a college with a good journalism or strong writing program or take a lot of undergrad writing intensive or creative writing, magazine writing etc. english classes and find a grad school with a strong journalism program

See if the school you want to go to offers a communications major. You should take courses in communications, journalism, media, and literature.
