I'm thinking of no longer eating bread, cakes, rice, noodles, cereals, etc.

Can I get all the carbs I need from just vegetables and fruit?

(I'm vegetarian)

So for example: instead of having : steamed vegetables and white rice for dinner...

....I want to just have the steamed vegetables and a leaf and tomato salad.

Or for breakfast: instead of having All Bran and milk...i'll have a fruit salad...

All advice appreciated

If you include beans and pulses as well, but I think you should still eat rice, organic brown rice, otherwise your diet won't be balanced & will be lacking in certain areas. Rice and beans together make a complete protein. Avocados are good for the fats you need.

I had a friend once who was a fruitarian. She seemed to be pretty unhealthy.

You actually need a full range of nutrients if you're going to MAKE USE of the carbs you get from the fruit.

For example, All Bran and milk IS a pretty unhealthy breakfast, but it needs fruit to be ADDED, so that the range of nutrients can be fully absorbed and activated.

For one, where will you get enough fibre from... you need fibre for a healthy digestive system. Plus fruit contains a lot of sugar, so although it is good for you you still need to eat it in moderation.

You could probably do it if you some how substitute certain things for supplements... However I think it'd be hard not to be tempted into eating certain foods.... like CAKE! or biscuits, or all though yummy things that just aren't fruit or veg. Plus you'd have to be very organised as if you were buying food on the go its all sandwiches/wraps/pasta salads etc... I'm not trying to be a pain I just think it would be hard.

If you're at goal weight, then yes.

If you're overweight, your body operates perfectly fine on ketones instead of carbs. That's the basis of low carb diets.

You can see many people below who reached goal by eating very few carbs until Maintenance.
