People keep getting MUTT/MONGRELS & then flailing around desperately trying to attach some sort of "breed" to it. Which,of course,is impossible.
If they wanted a particular -REAL-breed,why didn't they get one?
If they DIDN'T,why do they seem to CARE???
Like a large portion of posts here,is this just to get some sort of "aw..CUTE!" reaction from total strangers??

MY point being...they are **JUST** Mutts/MONGRLES & there IS ABSOLUTELY ***NO WAY** to predict ANYTHING about them!!! EVER!!!
I dunno why folks think VETS are any better at *guessing* or why on earth it it could possibly matter-in 99.998 % of ANY diagnosis or treatment.
It appears few are able to comprehend the query, let alone explain the behavior.

God I wish I knew!! Frequently, the people wanting these MUTTS don't have ANY special attachment to either of the breeds involved in making it!! So why do they want a Maltipoo if they could care less about a Maltese or a Poodle??????? TONS of people want a Puggle, but don't want a Beagle.....they have heard they are hard to train, or roam, or bark. What *F* do they think a Puggle is going to do??????????????? I guess with the cute little name attached to it, it becomes something MAGICAL!!!
If you advertised Beagle/Pug mix puppies, you would have gotten a call or two. Many people would think.."How freaking ugly THAT will be". BUT advertise Puggle puppies, and the mindless dolts FLOCK to them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This could be one of life's greatest mysteries! Kind of a "If you mix it, they will come"!!! kind of a thing!!!!!!!!!1

If it's about cost, then that's another thing, but otherwise, if people are concenred with what breed thier dog is, outside of sheer curiosity, I pereceive this to be the reason.
It probably has to do with people who are dichotomous about feeling normal, juxtaposed by feeling the need to be unique, of the upper-echelon and proper.
Purebreeds will always be synonomous with the luxury class; they are expensive and purportedly help to dictate status, are rare and feed that "look at what I have/can afford" need some have.
Mutts are more common by far. But at the same time, if you have a "Poodle Papillon mix", you have the luxury of telling your football buddies it's just a mutt, AND that hot girl walking her dog in the park that it's a "Poddle Papillon" mix.
Both are true, just one has a better chance of garnering a different attention than others.
Like saying I have a Chevy and saying I have a Corvette. Is saying that you have a Vette pretentious where saying you have a Chevy more reserved? Who knows...

Most of all the dogs I have ever had were mutts.
Crosses of this or that and maybe a little of another make fine pets. People want to know the major X's cause each breed is predisposed for certain ailments. Collie's/ double row of eye lashes. German Sheppard's/hip dysplasia, cookers/cocker ear & cocker eye, great danes/brittle bones etc.
When a dog is taken to a Vet he needs to know the most predominant breed for his records. When you get a rabies shot for your dog the vet needs to know the most predominant breed.
There needs to be a disscription of the breed for record purposes.
I don't think that people are trying to touch your heart with what they own, they just want to know more about the their pet and what it may be predisposed to and what they can do to help their pet.
I bet you would only have a pure breed and not take a second look at a X breed.

It is for attention and for the chance to show off their dog and
I think for some they think it is better (for example) to say I have a German Shepherd mixed w Rott rather then to say I have a mutt. I think it shouldn't matter what the mix is but some find it really important.

Curiousity, plain and simple. Some may be looking for attention of their cute mutt, but in most cases, I'd guess they are simply looking for an outside opinion as to what might be part of the mix in their dog.
The above statement is true as well in reference to a vet making a best guess. It's beneficial to give some form of guess as to mix and description as such to help identify the dog. It's never accurate 100%, but a trained professional can make a good educated guess to at least apply to the paperwork at the office, for their records.

In general people how have mixes ( I have one) wants to have an idea of the breed because the way a dog reacts and behaves is more often than not linked to the breed.
And you got to admit people are proud to show off their dogs, whether purbred or mix ( I have both)

I don't understand it myself. I took my 209lb Saint Bernard to the park the other day and four different people asked me what kind of dog it was. I guess a lot of people don't know and they look for answers. People are still asking other people their nationality? I personally am a Mutt. Every time I answer one of those "What breed is this" Questions I find myself hoping it is an obscure pedigree and this is just a quiz..But, no they are always mutts.

Sometimes it's just curiosity. I have a toy collie mix. So I asked a friend of mine, who's really good at it, what my dog was mixed with. After she told me, I went DUHHHHH. You could see the breeds in her.

Well lets face it. To your average pet owner, puggle/cockapoo/labradoodle or whatever sounds so much cuter than saying "Its a MUTT".
Course, sounds pretty darn stupid to real dog people. I wouldn't care so much about their silly cutesy names if they didn't think they were actual BREEDS!
