If God doesn't make any effort to make himself more known among non-believers (ie. through OBVIOUS miracles, not those such as the miracle or life or the miracle of birth, etc.), how come a lot of Christians try to convince Athiests that there is a god?

sister steph - are you implying that the rational explanations for 'miracles' are false? That would make them ordinary events. If God game me or someone next to me the power to part the sea, or something like that, I would believe in him immediately. Unfortunately, nothing like that has happened for about 2000 years.

chooselifexo - If my believing in God is so important, how come he doesn't reveal himself to remove any and all doubt about his existance?

shleyay10192 - examples? read the question again, obvious miracles mean everyone should be able to see it, and as a result, no one could possible doubt God's existance. If you have to (figuratively) open your eyes, the miracle is not a miracle.

people, read my question details! a miracle has been defined (by others) as an event that goes against what is considered by be possible or explainable by the laws of physics. The only evidence we have is stories in a book that say some guy thousands of years ago parted the sea, and Egypt was plagued with frogs, gnats, and flies (among others). These things are miracles, not birth, not the existance of man.

God isn't about making himself obvious... he allready has with those miricles you listed, and many more. Christians have faith in him... faith is believing in what we do not see...
We tell atheists that there is a God because we want them to discover the joy we have found in our Savior. If you want more hard evidence there is a God, try reading the book "Mere Christianity" by C. S. Lewis. It has just what you may need to be convinced that God is real.

Here's the thing God did tell us to tell others what we know, however some do not understand it is not a go out and recruit, but to share with seekers and even bring the sibject up so if a person is a seeker they can let one know. This whole idea of there being an ongoing debate is not right, but I might add that if one posts on here and does not say they are happy hwere they are and ask not to be bothered by Christian witness then when asking a spiritual question expect a Christian answer. If you do not want our participation just find a nice way to put that in your question.
some might be indirectly profit motivated but not many
God makes obvious miracle of healing all the time if you are looking you will find them with x-ray evidence etc. There are other kinds as well but somehow I do not think you want to see those and they are not for you probably.

I don't believe that. Even if God showed up, did a great miracle in front of you, I doubt you'd believe. Athiests put their stock in science and would probably be more willing to believe any miracle can be explained away (even if God was juggling in front of them) as something in nature, coincidence or last night's pizza and beer. I honestly believe that no miracle will ever convince anyone these days because we're too used to people either debunking everything or finding a rational explanation for it all.

God directed his apostles to "spread the word." And so that is what the religious & lay believers try to do -- even here on Yahoo.
Besides, I think he is still performing miracles. What about those people you hear about who were dying of something like cancer & all of a sudden it just disappears? What about aethists who come to believe in God (now if that isn't a miracle, what is)? I think his miracles are more personal now as opposed to feeding thousands with loaves & fishes, or turning water into wine at a wedding, or feeding with manna from heaven. Those types of miracles were needed to convert the skeptics to christianity. Well, at least that's my opinion.

1) I kinda thought that birth was an obvious miracle.
2) God has sent you all you need to know.....if you can't believe now then what makes you think you will believe if he sends yet another miracle.
3) A Christians goal is not to convince anyone that there is a God (if they opened their eyes they would see that). Nor is it to try to convert anyone. Our job is only to tell them of the "Good News."
Beyond that.....well.....that is between them and God!

The miracles are in front of you every morning and everyday. How does the grass keep growing and the sun keep shining? The food that we have? Who do you think gives us these gifts? The reason your not seeing the devil blinds the minds of non believers. So there for you over look what miracles are happening each day.

God has done plenty of obvious miracles that are found in medical journals and been documented by many a nonbeliever. It's not that God doesn't make the effort it's that no matter how much proof is put in front of some people they will never turn away from their ways because it means releasing control.

God gives us the power to do miracles but it is up to us to do the work. In the Bible it tells us that we will do even greater works than Jesus did.
Smith Wiggles worth is a good example of God's amazing power working through someone as ordinary as me and you.

God does show himself through obvious miracles, and if athiests will just open their eyes and except it instead of making some kind of excuse like, "it was just a coincidence" then maybe they would realize that God is trying to show himself to them. i know, i have seen some amazing miracles happen.

Our #1 mission in life as Christians is to fulfill the great commission...which is to get the message to everyone, particularly nonbelievers. What you believe about God is a matter of eternal destiny. So it's kinda important. That's why.
