Here are some great ways to make mashed potatoes even better. Add in fried smoked bacon and/or garlic together or seperately. You can also add in some mashed turnips to this mix to for an even greater flavor arrangement.

I love mashed potatoes too, and I love experimenting to find the best recipes. Here are my two favorites:

Baked Mashed Potatoes with Parmesan Cheese

1 tablespoon butter
4 pounds russet potatoes, peeled, cut into 1-inch pieces
1 cup whole milk
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted
1 1/2 cups grated mozzarella
1 cup freshly grated Parmesan
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
2 tablespoons plain dry bread crumbs

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Coat a 13 by 9 by 2-inch baking dish with 1 tablespoon of butter and set aside.
Cook the potatoes in a large pot of boiling salted water until they are very tender, about 15 minutes. Drain; return the potatoes to the same pot and mash well. Mix in the milk and melted butter. Mix in the mozzarella and 3/4 cup of the Parmesan. Season, to taste, with salt and pepper. Transfer the potatoes to the prepared baking dish. Stir the bread crumbs and remaining 1/4 cup of Parmesan in a small bowl to blend. Sprinkle the bread crumb mixture over the mashed potatoes. Recipe can be prepared up to this point 6 hours ahead of time; cover and chill.

Bake, uncovered, until the topping is golden brown, about 20 minutes.

SourCream Mashed Potatoes

6-8 potatoes
8 oz. sour cream
2 T butter
Paprika
Salt and Pepper

Boil potatoes as usual. While mashing add 1 cup+ sour cream and butter. Add more or less to taste. Season with salt and pepper. Transfer to a casserole dish and top with paprika.

These mashed potatoes can be made in advance and then baked in a 350 oven for 30 minutes before serving.

HAPPY MASHING!

Mine are almost the same....potatoes, a dash of milk, a spoon of sour cream, butter and salt. I am a potato freak. Fries, baked, twice baked, red potatoes, yukon gold, scalloped!!!! YUM-O!

Sometimes I will add some Creole seasoning to the mashed potatoes for a little kick, but just a little.

This is an old great way to do it : you will need a potatoe ricer
Bake russets until done about 1 hour at 425
cut potatoe in 1/2 and using a spoon scoop out flesh - rice (v)
mix in the usual milk , butter, bacon, green onions and parmeasan,

The advatage of using the ricer is that you always get 100% smooth lump -free potatoes

My family loves my mashed potatos! I use sour cream instead of milk, I add a lil bit of fresh chopped garlic and also if you want something different, bake it in an oven topped with finely chopped broccoli and chedder cheese or just cheese! Yummy!!

Cook potatoes in Swanson Chicken Broth or Swanson Seasoned Chicken Broth with Roasted Garlic. Drain and reserve broth. Mash potatoes with reserved broth instead of butter and milk.

Normal ingredients except use cream instead of milk, real butter of course & some roasted garlic. You can also mix in some of the herb cheese spreads from the snack/deli section rather than the garlic.

I like to roast a head of garlic, squeeze that into the potatoes as they're mashing, and add some grated parmesan cheese.

Yum!
