Between 1st and 2nd Dan is about 1 year.
2nd and 3rd is about 2 years.
3rd and 4th is about 3 years.
4th and 5th about 4 years.
5th and 6th 5 years.
6th and 7th 6 years.
7th and 8th 7 years.
8th and 9th 8 years.
9th and 10th 9 years.
10th well thats it.

So from First Dan to 9th is about 36 years

This is Kukkiwon by the way and the higher you get the more you need to do for the art.

It depemds on the organization. If it's much less than 3 years for 1st dan, something is wrong. 3-5 is typical. My Master instructor is 9th dan. It took him over 45 years, & that is with a total lifetime of dedication. Even so, that was unusually fast to get a Kukiwan 9th dan. Again it depends on the organization. If you want to be Kukiwan certified 9th dan, figure on at least 50 years. Some people spend there lives in martial arts without reaching 9th dan.
If you arn't yet 1st dan, you shouldn't even be thinking about 9th.

In traditional martial arts, the ranks between about 5th and up are a factor of age and dedication to the art. It was about 30 years for my sensei's sensei. He was awarded 10th Dan at age 69.

In my style, 28 is the youngest you can make 5th Dan.

Well it takes at least 2 years (took me 5) to get to first dani and it takes at least 38 years to get to 9th dan, because for each one it goes up a year more in between
hope that makes sense?

As I understand it, it's not time. It is achievement. When you defeat a higher ranking Dan you automatically advance. Otherwise you have to achieve the same feats as the next higher Dan.

Do Not rush or care about ranks, they are only a title. If Bruce lee was a white belt his whole life would you question him?

First off... there is NO SUCH THING AS "TRADITIONAL" TKD.... its false.

However each group of governing bodies has their own requirements. WTF for example has age requirements before you can even test.

its not called "take your dough" for just any reason
