I am doing an article for my high school newspaper. And my topic is about how dating has changed. People just commit to whoever pays them attention. Many don't even know the people very well. I guess what I'm asking is where did "going steady" and "courting" go?

i'm kinda old fashioned i think. :)

i have some standards. i'm constantly giving advice on here regarding Men and Women's natural roles in a relationship, and how important it is to respect each other's roles, and Appreciate them.

also, men and women need to have expectations from Themselves first. that way, let's say a shady guy or girl tries to "do it" with ya. if u had expectations from urself, and in the kinda guy or girl u want, u would NOT date that person.

i think a lot of it has to do with the trend of Feminism. a lot of women today don't really understand what the movement was about...and therefore think a strong independent woman = Sex Object, Dating Freedom, Promiscuity as Freedom. but that is the Farthest from the truth. it actually causes a lot of young girls and women to BECOME the object instead of a person.. back in the day, when we had courting and going steady, it was cuz the guy was trying to Impress the parents, show that they had more intentions than just sex. nowadays, kids go off and live together and never get married and so values have declined... =T. u have a lot of info to work with.. good luck! sounds like an interesting topic

My brother has a theory about this and I agree with it. Honestly? Women's Liberation Movement wrecked a lot of that for us. I mean, we wanted to be so independant that guys stopped chasing us. They figure "Well heck! She wants to be so liberated, she can ask me out, pay for the date, hold the doors open, etc.." What you need is a guy raised by old fashioned parents who still has that really awesome side to him. My man's for it so I know it's out there!

am with you on that..I think that today some women give it up to easliy..what happening to making the guy chase us..or lust after us, I think that it has alot to do with the guys as well..men often times dont want to wait ..they want it now ..and so if they feel that a girl is making them wait 3 to6 months for sex...they move on to somone who will give it up in 1 night...respect plays a factor...some women dont respect their bodies and they think that sleeping with 20 men at a young age is cute..no its not cute at all...also the media play a factor...every channel now is women taking their clothes off...also peer pressure..and its also the decisions that we make that affect ourlives in the long run....I hoped that i help

Old fashioned romance died when women decided they didn't want all that crap... Died about the same time as chivalry...

Women want to be equal, then time to pay the piper... :D
