... has been brought up in a home where he was allowed to do his business in a room? He's a one and a half year old Papillon, pretty smart, but after numerous attempts at housbreaking he's not getting it. I've praised the rare times he waited until he was outside, tried crating, made sure times were consistent when taking him out, I'm just at wits end. Please help me save on floor care products!!!!!!! =)

It's the same as a puppy...

Scold him when he has accidents and immediately take him outside. Limit his food and water intake and take him out about 20 minutes after he eats/drinks. Crate him at night and take him outside first thing in the morning.

Most importantly, PRAISE him with great enthusiasm when he goes outside.

Give it some time, my dog was like this for years and now he's finally getting the picture. If you keep him in the crate when you aren't there/sleeping, he should not go in the crate and you can immediately take him outside. If he does go in the crate it is probably too big. If nothing works and you want to save your floors, buy puppy pee pee pads which are absorbant sheets you can put on the floor. Also is your dog neutered? If he isn't that may be one of the problems.

First of all, be patient with him. Next, watch him like a hawk and take him outside anytime you catch him sniffing for a place to go.

Keep him in a crate when you can't be right there with him and make sure the crate isn't much bigger than he is. He won't want to pee or poop in his crate if he doesn't have enough room.

merely proceed taking it out each and every hour, I did that with my canines, I usually suggested something like "be rapid" or "solid female" to inspire her to bypass.... and then after she did her company exterior, i gave her a large variety of compliment... My brother saved attempting to make me rub her nostril in her feces yet I saved doing it my way. Now whilst she desires to bypass, she is going right this moment to the decrease back door and if i don't understand she is there, she'll make whining noises... LOL She is likewise a golden retriever, so she purely took some days to get used to the bathroom training... (curiously they are particularly sensible...).

Have you looked at that doggy litter? I haven't ever used it, but it might save your floors.
