I have a memorial service to go to and I am not sure exactly what the difference is between it and a funeral.
Also, how do you dress for a memorial service?

A funeral may take place at either a funeral home or church. A funeral is usually held three to five days after the death of the deceased. Some people consider it important to conduct the funeral exactly three days after the death.

Funeral services include prayers; readings from the Bible or other sacred texts; hymns (sung either by the attendees or a hired vocalist); and words of comfort by the clergy. Frequently, a relative or close friend will be asked to give a eulogy, which details happy memories and accomplishments; often commenting on the deceased's flaws, especially at length, is considered impolite. Sometimes the delivering of the eulogy is done by the clergy.

Often there is a viewing at the end of the service so that mourners can say "goodbye".

The memorial service is a service given for the deceased without the body present. This may take place after an earth burial, donation of the body to an institution such as a school, cremation (sometimes the cremains are present), entombment, or burial at sea. Typically these services take place at the funeral home and may include prayers, poems, or songs to remember the deceased. Pictures of the deceased are usually placed at the altar where the body would normally be to pay respects by.

Usually a "Funeral" implies there is a body present. Many "Memorial" Services are done without a body. There are occasions when a Family prefer just Family at the burial then have a Memorial for friends of the Deceased.

A funeral is with the body present, a memorial service is without a body bt perhaps with the cremated remains. You would dress the same as if you were going to a regular funeral. Take care!

At a funeral the body is present. Dress the same way for a memorial that you would for a funeral.

A memorial service is done "in memory" of a deceased individual, but that individual's body is not at the premises.

A funeral is done with the corpse present.

A memorial service ususally does not involve the presence of or the interrment of the deceased. That's the funeral.
