It sounds like you could have a pinched nerve. You can try using an anti inflammatory drug such as Ibuprofen (Motrin) to reduce inflammation and control the pain. A visit to a Chiropractor could also help as they can give you some separation in your cervical vertebrae and relieve pressure on the offending nerve. You could also have a herniated disk in your neck which would be detectable with a CT scan or MRI. Get as much rest as you can, and if the symptoms persist, consult your doctor to be sure.

If you have the opportunity, have someone give you a massage. Boyfriends are great, but so are massuses.
Otherwise, I would go get some mineral ice and coat the back of your neck and upper back with it. Absorbine works just as well. I get the horse strenght because typically Absorbine Jr. isn't strong enough for my aches...but if you get Absorbine Jr. after soaking in a hot tub proping your head on a pillow...that might work.

firstly could be worth going to a doctor just to ease the pain and take any swelling down.
Longer term:
Get yourself a few sessions booked for a back massage, it can hurt at first but will quickly ease up all the muscles in your back and neck.
Then listen to the masseurs advice if he/she thinks that a chiropracter is a good idea (now that your muscles have been relaxed) then go get cricked!
All the best mate, i hate back probs- ooo i've been finding yoga really good as well
x ;)

Go to a chiropractor. It's the only thing that ever helped me. It may take several (6-7) appointments, but it really does help in the long run.

I had this a few months back it took about 5 days to die down, i think its just a really bad cramp i used dome 'deap heat' on it, it helped me. I would put up with it for a few days and if it doesnt go then go to the doctor.

It sounds like you may have pinched a nerve or just slept funny. take some tylenol, take it easy for a few days, and if it does not go away, then go see a doctor it may be somthing a bit more serious.

this could be quite serious, you really should go and see a doctor, or a chiropractor, what ever the problem is don't let it get any worse or you may need an operation. I hope you feel better.
good luck

I guess you have some problems with the nerve system. It happened to my auntie before. I suggest you not just to see a western doctor, all they can do is to prescribe you some painkillers. Maybe you can try acupunctures.
