Assuming your question relates to just driving in France on a full UK licence, yes you can, but check with your insurance company that you are covered over there.
As far as trying to enter France with just a driving licence as your means of ID, non!. Despite promises years ago of a continent without frontiers, it's not possible to leave the UK without a valid passport.

I don't think so, I think you can only travel on Driving licence within the British Isles and Ireland. I have travelled to the Irish Republic on only a full UK driving licence (one of the new pink ones with your picture on it) flying by Ryanair, but to go to the Continent they require you to have a valid UK passport as well.
