I'm interested in buying a rice cooker. We eat a meal with rice about two times a week. From what I've read so far,'non-stick' is advisable, perhaps 'automatic shutoff', 'keep warm' also a good idea. I'm looking for no-fuss, perfect rice every time, best buy.

I've owned several different brands, models etc throughout the years and my favorite is the model made by Aroma with the steamer tray! Easy to clean (some are EVIL), works well, nice bonus of the steam tray and best of all cheap! Target sells it for $10-15.

Sassy, I grew up on the Gulf Coast and lemme tell ya...That Aroma is just too dang easy and it uses a *lot* less energy than stovetop cooking!

I'm from New Orleans where we eat A LOT of rice with everything! The cheapest way to cook it is to boil it on the stove. Rice cookers are ok, but if you learn to cook it in a 2 qt. pot, you'll enjoy it much more. Here's how we cook it:
2 Qt. pot 2/3 water, 1/2 tea salt
once the water starts to boil, add 1 cup of rice (regular long grain)
then immediately start to stir it down so it doesn't boil over or stick to the bottom of the pot.
Now, just adjust the burner so the water is boiling but not full blast.
After 10 min, check it for tenderness. It will probably be el'denti at this point; some people like it that way.
If it's still tough, boil another 5 minutes and check again. It will probably be done at that time.
Pour into a collendar and immediately run it under the water of your sink, I usually run cold water over my rice, for about 30 seconds. This will keep the rice from sticking.

Rice also freezes well then you can microwave it after running some water on it to break up the kernels. Hope you give it a try! If you still need a rice cooker, I like to buy my small appliances from SmartBargains.com or Amazon.com. Godloveya!

Chika's advice to purchase frozen Stouffers nutrition is strange. Any time you purchase prepackaged, arranged nutrition you pays a extensive mark-up. i'm able to make 3 dinners for my kin for what you will pay for a $12 'kin dinner' out of the freezer case. Mine will style greater desirable too. something in line with beans (dried) would be much less high priced. you may upload a touch meat for style, and perk it up with each form of seasonings. previous that, i might advise basically clever procuring. seem on the sale classified ads. purchase issues that are on sale this week. (i.e., mutually as hamburger is 'affordable,' if crimson meat chops are on sale for $one million.19 a pound, and hamburger is $one million.40 9, you're of course greater desirable off with the crimson meat. (in no way suggestions that affordable hamburg is in many instances very fatty.) Pasta additionally makes a small volume of meat pass a lengthy way. purchase an entire fowl and poach it. that provides you with a pair of nutrition of fowl, and a pot of inventory to cook dinner those beans in. try the ordinary public library for 'finances-saving' cookbooks. yet please do not be afraid to word for nutrition stamps and different varieties of tips. that's what they're THERE for -- and as quickly as you word it ought to be some weeks in the previous you start up up getting help, so which you do not prefer to finally end up with an empty financial company account, and empty refrigerator and a three week await nutrition stamps.
