I want to make my boyfriend laugh. Like, on a daily basis. I'm just not funny, or at least not funny to him. I want to make him happy, like how he makes me. I don't want it to always be so serious with us, but to have fun (don't' get me wrong, we do), but I still want to make him laugh. Is it just a personality defect, or what?

Thankies!

First, I don't think you should be so hard on yourself. Your sense of humor is just fine, it's probably just a little different from his. Not everyone finds the same things to be funny. It's hard to force yourself to "be funny". Being funny, is just....what some people are, and what some people aren't. I don't think it's a personality defect by any means.

I would also have to guess, that if you and your boyfriend are in love, that the two of you balance one another out in a healthy way. In every relationship, each person takes on certain roles....as well as share certain roles. You could both be funny...but you're saying your not. That's just the way it is. You have other qualities that more than make up for humor in his eyes....why else would he be with you?

Some have the natural ability to make others laugh. They just seem to make it sound or look better than the rest. That shouldn't force you to try something you aren't. It's more important to have fun than being funny.

By just acknowledging that he's very funny when he is, by reminding about something funny he said yesterday and laughing over it again together, and to even sometimes laugh out loud and say "gosh, I wish I were as funny as you are" - are all helpful.

You don't have to be as funny as he is to make him laugh. In fact, let him focus on what he does best - make you laugh. And you can try and focus on what you can do best - make him smile :-).

Find out what makes him happy by asking him. Is a good thing. Make ridiculous foods, like heart shaped pancakes etc. Cater to him in funny ways that men or not use to. And they'll actually think its funny instead of looking at the effort you put in it. Buy a smaller shirt like one he has and tell him you shrunk his shirt. Do some similar things he does to you.
