i have had my optoma ep719 projector for a little over a month and am pleased with it. i use it for my computer, dvd player, and video game systems. however, just recently i have noticed a strange artifact in the picture. there is a small black dot that dances around the picture and is only really noticeable when the picture is still or very white. it sometimes looks like there is a line going from the bottom of the dot, it never stays still its always bouncing around the middle of the picture. does anyone know what is causing this and if so how do i go about fixing it. thank you.

There could be a some kind of smudge or a piece of debris on the lens or colorwheel. I would try to see if I could locate it, if it would be easy to remove myself with something like compressed air. If not send it to a specialist.

Since the dot is moving around, it is not a "dead" pixel. If it is fuzzy, it could be a piece of dust caught somewhere in the optical system, being blown around by the cooling fan.. Compressed air is NOT flammable (it usually isn't air, but nitrogen only), but fooling around inside the projector is risky. Since you have had it for only a month, I would definitely recommend you contact the seller or the manufacturer. A factory-authorized tech should be able to clean the optics without causing any problems.

Is it a small black dot like a pixel or a black spec like dust? If it is not perfectly square or uniform, then it is most likely dust. If it is uniformed like a square or rectangle, it could be an issue with the DLP chip. Regardless, I would leave it alone. If it is under warranty, you can have it serviced. But, it is such a minor thing, I would wait until it needs a major repair. The problem with cleaning checks is that the tech can open it up and mess something up. But, do not use compressed air on a projector. 3 reasons: 1) compressed air is flammable. 2) It can crack the color wheel. 3) it can push the dust somewhere else.
