Why are people mean to Muslims?

We are not all bad people.
If you met me would you show the hatred I've been reading so much on all of the posts here? It makes a lot of Americans look bad. I just want to see how Americans feel, really. Im sure each person is differant.

Wow- This is a powerful question, and one to be asked. I personally had to answer this for myself, but first let me say "Salam Malakum" (sp?)
I am devoted Christian American Military Spouse currently living in an African Muslim country, and I don't think you can't get more diverse then that.
I agree with you that Americans look bad, because most do not know what a true Muslim is and only know what is report on the news. (I could have been one of these Americans a year or so ago, and two tours in Iraq could do that to a person.)
Needless to say, I would like to end this on a positive note. All the Muslims I have gotten to know what to live in PEACE. There are extremes on both ends. Just as the majority of Americans would disassociate themselves from the ones that are protesting grave sites because the US has gays live there.
I would like to encourage you to show these people what your all about. Not is a IN YOUR FACE way, but a here it is thing. The pilars of Islam prove that Muslims want Peace for all, that they do not look down on who is that persons personal Savior. For me that happens to be Jesus Christ. Yet I feel we can still love one another, and see where each other is coming from with resepect, and honor, in a way that would be glory to both religions.

I asked a similar question the other day, and I'm very much a white, Atheist American.

I find it extremely sad that people in this country and around the world are judging the entire Muslim culture by a handful of ignorant people. Please don't judge all of us by some of the ignorant, racist people you will find on here. They are either trying to get a rise out of you, or they're scared, which is why they hide behind a computer screen before attacking.

We do not all think that way. Most of us are open-minded, accepting people who realize there is a difference between extremists and regular people.

I wish you the best, and remember, ignorance is bliss...which means they are happy and probably will never change.

I really don't know why people are mean to muslims. I work with musilims and they are actually nice people. Unfortunately, like in all religions, there are some bad people and that really hurts the rest of them even the good ones. I myself have asked the Muslims about their religion because I was curious and wanted to know more about it so I could understand them. They all were more than willing to tell me about it. If they didn't want to answer a question about their religion, I left it at that. Hey, they even asked me what religion I was and what I believed in. I was more than happy to tell them that I am Lutheran. Hey, I know you are not all bad people and I wish more could understand that. As for me, I really dont care what religion someone is, its what kind of person they really are. Religion doesnt matter to me at all, it just makes our beliefs a little different which, in turn, keeps this world interesting.

Its just the ignorance of few people about islam and they feel it their duty to show it here....but no doubt there are soo many good peoples here and i realy love and repect them.Humen are naturaly senstive to negativity than positivity....thats why it always feel like a mess......sometimes i literely feel exhausted when i answer anti-islamic questions.you are right each person is different..there are good and bad in every community but bad peoples are strong enough to show them that way ..

A fellow above who mentioned that christains are not treated well in some muslim countries and mentioned Pakistan...Well they are best treated in pakistan.I m eye witness...i have very good christain frinds we have four churches in my city and there christains are free to practise their religion and they are taken equaly to muslims.i wish you could believe this.

Muslims are a bit rougher with christians in countries like Indonesia, Pakistan, Sudan, Saudi etc. than I think westerners are to them here in the west.... But I have to admit I met unbelievably nice muslims in Egypt. I think the nice muslims could do a better job of explaining to the fanatics to lighten up, they sure won't listen to us when it comes to things like that.
