I got him as a puppy and never got a chance to see the mother of him because my x-girlfriend got him not me. Needless to say she didn't have a clue what breed he is. Im just curious because its a common question when they meet him.

here is a link to all his pictures

I can tell you some personality things that might key in on his background.
I know he is a mutt but i would like to be able to identify him a little more

He loves to Run around outside untill he is worn out. He will bark when someone comes to the door. He loves to spin in circles when he meets new people. He likes all animals. He won't attack anytihng. He doesn't chase cats but he does get curious and sniff them. he listens well and lets me know when someone is outside. Also he is too smart for his own good. He has learned how to open handle doors and can figure out how to flip the lid on the garbage can. He knows when he has done something wrong. He tries to cover up his bad behavior with hugs and kisses.

Looks to me like part german shepherd. Have you tried asking your vet?

Definitely looks like some German Shepherd in him, maybe a bit of beagle or Pit too? Very cute dog.

He's not a breed, he's a mutt. Looks like there is some German Shepherd, possibly some Rottweiler/Doberman, or possible some coonhound. Definitely not any sort of pure-bred though. Whatever he is, he's adorable!

How cute! German shepard, terrier mix? Hes got the colorings of a minpin though. But I dont think a german shepard and a minpin could mate LOL. No really, he looks as though hes got German Shepard and the nose of a terrier. Good luck hes cute

With the pics and the behavior, I would safely say that he has some Austrailian Kelpie in him, too, which the black toe nails are a good sign of it. Kelpies are very affectionate and also love to run like mad until they ca't run anymore. It is part of their nature (cattle dogs). But I do agree with everyone else on the Shephard

Looks like an arachnoreinmutt.
Seriously, hard to tell from your pictures. but looks like a german shepherd mixture. pictures of the dog standing sideways and better views of the ears would help.
