Seriously, it amazes me that so many people believe so blindly with all the discrepancys of organized religion and the bible. I believe in God, in life after death, and that we have our own precious soul which we are truly responsible for.
This question isn't meant to insult - I really want to know why you take man's word for God's, meaning the preachers, ministers, rabbis and priests, and do so without questioning the discrepancys and hypocrisies of organized religion. How do you trust another man or woman with something as valuble as your soul? Shouldn't it be your job and God's?
Please, someone, give me a logical answer.

Wow, that's a really deep question and a good one at that.
I think a lot of people really hit the mark on the nose, but I'm not surprised to see a lot of ignorant answers like that first one, Madelaine.

Compare it to a little kid who, when you try to tell him that he's doing something wrong, he puts his fingers in his ears and screams.

It is scary that so many people blindly believe. This is what happened with Hitler and the Houlocaust, and even more recently with Bush in Iraq. I know I'm veering off subject here, but I'm just trying to point out that blindly believing without question is very dangerous. It's worse when people like Ted Haggard, Jim Bakker, and Pat Robertson are trusted with souls of the masses.

Good for you for realizing it! Hopefully you woke a few people up.

You are right... it's all between you and God. It's one of the reasons I'm not a Roman Catholic anymore. The Church and it's traditions are considered to be equal to the word of God in the bible. Organized religions have their place; teaching, fellowship, discipleship... and many have come to know the Lord through them, but the bottom line is that it is between you and God.

Ask me what I am, I will reply " Christian", for that is who I am. To me Christianity is not some religion that I mindlessly follow. True Christians would agree, that it is the way of life... the way God intended us to live it. Doctrine and dogmas have turned into discrepancies, hypocrisy and heresy. Bibles come out in different version and interpretations... What is one to believe?

Eventually, you have to take God at his word. That He sent His Son, so that all who believes in Him, who He is and what He has done, can be saved. Anyone in any organized Christian religion/denomination with agree with this prerequisite to becoming a Christian.

God then gives the new believer His Holy Spirit. His Spirit is not regulated by any church, person, authority, doctrine or dogma. This is God going one on one with you. He will teach you in all that you need to know, and help you to grow in your faith. He will personally comfort and guide you on this new journey. He will give you joy, and share in your pains. All this, and so much more than you can even imagine. This is God's love, showing you that He is indeed real, and just how much He loves you.

Many Christians do follow their religions, thinking they are doing the right thing. It is only by inviting God into your heart... establishing a real and dynamic relationship with the living God, that one transcends the man-made shackles of religion. I've tried many paths, and Christ simply IS the way, truth, and the life.

Read something once which said that the only thing that separates us from really knowing God is 18". The average distance between our heads and our hearts. It's one thing to know about God, and quite another getting to know and love Him. Anything less is cheating ourselves of all that life, and our relationship with God, can truly be.

I was taking man's word over God's before I became a Christian. Then, when I actually began studying the Bible and saw the discrepancies, I trusted God; and haven't done anything less since!

Religion is a hot-button issue for anyone. Members of an organized religion identify very strongly with their beliefs. When you question them, they feel you are undermining the very essence of who they are. This isn't true of everyone, some people really do understand that religion is a personal belief that can neither be argued nor justified. That is the essence of faith.

Our preachers, ministers, rabbis and priests are supposed to be speaking the Word of God - if they do not then why would we listen to them?

I do not trust anyone but God with my soul, but I rely upon my preacher to help me learn more, question more, and believe more.

You assume that all "men of God" speak with hypocrisy and that is untrue.

James is definitely one in all the main overlooked epistles interior the Bible, and his emphasis on sturdy works rendered Christianity as now no longer only based on faith. This throws a lance on the middle of St. Paul. regardless of the undeniable fact that, related to your accepted question: whilst i glance on the society shaped by using the followers of Christianity, that's sensible that it reflects the values of the followers. otherwise, why are they associating with people who do no longer carry to their comparable values? or maybe interior the Y!A communicate board, the espousements of the assorted Christians approximately homosexuality, abortion, evolution, etc. only are regurgitations that they have interior of their prepared church homes. Your separation of religion from prepared faith could be super if it weren't for the certainty that Christians do set up, and via their employer attempt to place into secular regulation the restrictive regulations they think of they are meant to obey as Christians.

It's like going to a school and being a diehard fan of the horrible football team. When they play a good team, you cheer as if you actually think they can win, simply because you were pumped up by the pep rally.

These people find security in the group. The group think and the constant affirmation from all around them makes them ill equipped to handle life's normal challenges. Such as--'WHY do you believe that?' So the result is anger.

When you start to question, you start to think. When you start to think, you start coming up with conclusions independent of what you've been force-fed all your life. When you make these conclusions, it terrifies you because all of a sudden, everything you took for granted as being true in your whole life suddenly has the air of doubt around it. When you start to doubt, you start to fear. When you start to fear, you turn to the familiar for comfort, and the familiar is what you've been force-fed all your life. Then you explain away the doubts and questions, you return to the fold, put the blinders back on, and all is well with the world once more.

I believe it is about burden and responsibility. Some people can't deal with being solely responsible for their own lives and to cope go to someone who's willing to take the burden. Some people eliminate the middle man others praise him and to an extent worship. That's my best guess.
