Funny Nicole. ;o Every guinea pig I've met smelled to high heaven. ;) Go with rats. :] I've owned guinea pigs before--after going to rats, I realize how much I was missing out on. Rats do NOT stink, contrary to the other ignorant posters. If they do, it's completely your fault because the cage should be cleaned at least once every week. Pros-- - Very affectionate. All have their own personality, but females tend to be more hyper and males are more laid back and calm. - Can learn tricks and be litter-trained, and after two weeks or so they pick up on using the bathroom in their cage only. ;) - ALWAYS happy to see you. - Extremely smart - Come in a wide variety of colors/markings, plus fur and ear types. You have dumbos, which have low-set, wide ears and "polar bear" shaped heads, rex rats which have curly fur, harley rats which have "flyaway" fur, hairless rats, satins, velveteens, standard-ear rats, etc. The colors range from albino to black, blue, agouti, Russian blue agouti, champagne, etc., etc. There are even Siamese rats. C: I own one. She's fat and named Avalon. 8D - Do NOT bite! The only instances in which you'll get bit is from a momma with babies (and not all of them do, btw), them mistaking your fingers for food (which all of mine have been trained to recognize the difference), getting a rat off of a bad line (which is another problem with petstore ratties D:), or getting an abused rat, but abused ratties often come around. <3 - They have the funniest antics, especially when let out to roam around a rat-proofed room/area. - People don't call them tiny dogs for no reason. They learn their name and everything. Cons-- - Short-lived. :( 2 - 3 years on average, and when they pass, it'll leave you wondering where the time went. - Females are prone to mammary tumors. Both genders are prone to respiratory problems, so always get your rats from a good breeder, or help out and get a pair or three from a rescue. C: Petstore rats often come with a bucket problems even though they are just as sweet. :C - Need a big cage. With rats, they need a lot of room to roam, so getting a nice ferret cage for them will make 'em happy. For guinea pigs, I had nothing but bad experiences, so I'll list the cons. :|| - Smelled. Horribly. I would clean the cage twice a week and it never helped. - Peed/pooped outside the cage all the time. - Were forever skittish. They never settled down and the slightest sound would startle them. - Ugh. Health issues. |: - BITING.

I've heard it called a "chiller". Don't know if that's correct or not, just commonly heard.
