Only the really stupid ones. Does it happen to you a lot?

Well, it seems to be a stimulus response.
Do Christians give a thumbs down to an athiest's response? Sure they do if they are Christians. Just wait and see what responses you are going to get and you can answer the question for yourself.

I give lots of thumbs up to Christians. It's the thumpers and rollers I give thumbs down to. I have a few benchmarks I look for:
James 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
James, being Jesus' brother, clearly got the message.
Micah 6:8 He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?
Micah kept it to the essentials and in the right priority.
Do justly. Be fair and reasonable. Don't take bribes, Don't lie. Don't bear false witness.
Love mercy. Not love justice, but love mercy. Being merciful supersedes being just. Isn't that the whole notion of Christ's substitutionary death on the cross? That God would prefer to show mercy to humanity, to the point of allowing Himself to be humiliated and executed for the sins of the whole world, than to satisfy his justice on each of us individually?
And then walk humbly with God, not pridefully, spitefully, swaggering, insulting and deriding unbelievers, knowing that the Archangel Michael didn't insult Satan (Jude 1:9).
Christians that live with the above in mind I count among my closest friends even though I am an atheist. And they will always get a thumbs up, even though I don't share their beliefs.
But thumpers are all about their notion of "Justice" for others, can't spell "Mercy" unless they want it for themselves when snared by their own transgressions. Think "Humble" is the pie God made for unbelievers to eat as their last meal before they burn. They think "religion pure and undefiled" is walking in every time the church door is open, getting there early for the best gossip and back-biting, and when they go home they wrinkle their nose at the starving single mom and kids next door because she's divorced or had a child out of wedlock.
I can only give thumpers one thumbs down. I'd give more if I could. Not because they're Christians, but because they're an embarrassment to Christ and twist everything he taught and was.
I personally don't believe Jesus was God. But I believe everyone is entitled to fair representation and to not have their name associated with attitudes and actions they would not support.

No, it is not. There are many open minded Christians on here that I respect very much.
I do admit, however, when I see a scripture it is likely to get a thumbs down from me.

No. It is my stimulus response to do that only when confronted with utter stupidity, be it from a Christian, Muslim, A Polka Dotted Beetle worshipper... or even a fellow atheist.

Not all atheists. You can never generalize a group of people because of where they stand on a particular belief. Maybe the question merited a "thumbs down."

I've found that any time I express a nice, neutral, but athiestic response, I seem to get a lot of thumbs downs. Hm. This increases when I outrightly state that I am an athiest. I don't think its other athiests clicking the down-turned thumb, do you?

Everyone has a right to voice their opinion with a thumbs-up or thumbs-down, no matter what religion they are.
True, sometimes people go a bit overboard with the clicking, but anonymity makes it easy for them to give a thumbs-down to someone they'd never veto in person.

Definitely goes both ways. Maybe you should create a mediation where the christians and atheists can get together and eat some funnel cake.

Seriously. If any Christian cares about the negative or positive points, I have the perfect book for you. It’s called "You Are Special" by Max Lucado.
