Muslims do not pray to dead people, that goes completely against Islam. At the Janaza they say prayers for the departed. We ask Allah to forgive the deceased and grant them Jannah.(Paradise)

They don't pray TO dead people, but Muslims, just like Christians and Jews and many other religious people, believe in an afterlife, so they pray that the soul of the dead person has a good afterlife (I think)

Similar to Catholics praying for souls in purgatory, but obviously not the same

I've never heard of Muslims praying to dead people. I did take a religion class that covered Islam. Chrsitianity and Judaism. I think only Catholics pray to the dead. But I am not sure. Interesting question.

I am Protestant Christian

Some Christians pray TO the dead, some pray FOR the dead, some commit adultery, some get drunk on wine. All these acts violate scriptural instruction for followers of Christ.

Praying for the dead or to the dead or in any way communicating with the dead is done because of false teachings. (that's WHY they do it)

How strange! I'm a born Muslim and didn't hear that yet!

Muslims don't pray to any dead people. Muslims pray to the one Almighty God. We can pray for someone who departed. We can wish blessings to them who passed away. It is recommended.

In Qur'an:

[59:10] "And those who come after them say: Our Lord! forgive us and those of our brethren who had precedence of us in faith, and do not allow any spite to remain in our hearts towards those who believe, our Lord! surely Thou art Kind, Merciful."

Christians have only one God - therefore should only pray to Him. Praying to the dead is pointless and would seem to me to be placing diety on a person. not good.

Mormons baptize for the dead, Catholics pray to "saints" and Mary. I believe we should only pray to God/Jesus/Holy Spirit
