My 3 year old daughter started taking amoxicillan one week ago yesterday and i noticed yesterday she had a mild rash on her stomache. I went ahead and gave the medicine to her again last night and today both her cheeks are covered in red blotches and her whole body has red bumps. I called the doctor and she said she didn't think it was the antibiotic but that it was something viral. The reason she was taking it to begin with is because she had run fever all week and the test results said it was something viral. Her fever stopped 4 days ago and she broke out on day 3. What do you think? Could it be an allergic reaction to the medicine or something viral? I have never heard of anyone breaking out with a viral sickness.

She started running fever on Sunday. I took her to the doctor on Wednesday where they swabbed her for strep throat. The test was negative but they were going to go ahead and treat her for that since she didn't have any other symptoms except swollen tonsils and glands ( she complained of throat hurting). That is when she started antibiotic. She was still running fever sunday week so I took her back to the doctor on monday where they took urine test and blood test. The fever was gone then but they said all the test report is was 100% viral. I still don't know what was wrong with her except is was viral.

If it is an allergic reaction, giving her a dose of liquid benadryl might help. Use the right dose for her age and try to see if you can clear up the rash with that. However, allergies can get worse with each exposure to whatever is causing it. Watch her breathing and use your best judgment. It could be viral though. Like other people are advising, check back often with the doctor.

I work for a pediatrican and we see this alot it very well could be a rash like roseola, it's a viral rash followed by a fever. I would not worry about an allergic reaction if it were going to be serious it would have happend by now, a lot of the times the kids have a reaction to the dye in the antibiotic. Also there are A LOT of viral rashes that kids can get. You did the right thing by calling the dr. Just keep the dr. posted. Good luck

There's a viral illness called Fifth disease, where the child runs a fever and has a mild runny nose for a few days, then develops just such a rash as the fever subsides. My son had it. The anitbiotic would have caused a rash right away (within a day) if your daughter had a reaction to it. But because it's a virus, there's really no point in taking the antibiotic anymore, anyway- antibiotics only work on bacterial infections. Your dr is overmedicating your daughter, which can cause eventual immunity to amoxicillin and its cousins. Drop the amox, and stick with Tylenol.

Many people are allergic to different things. An aspirin, and all it's cousins would kill me. I am slightly allergic to Penicillin.

Evidently, she is allergic to Amoxicillian. It might be some type of virus but I would NOT give her anymore Amoxicillian. There are too many other antibiotics that she could take.
Good luck. Pops

Sounds like an allergic reaction to the antibiotic. I have a similar reaction to penicillin.

Im sure its a reaction to the meds. They gave me penicilin and around day three i started breaking out in red dots. My son did the same thing. Stop the meds right away.

A week ago i was precribed Amoxicillan for a ear infection.

It worked really great, and had no side effects, or reactions.

However i am 22, but i'm sure it will clear up
