My knowledge of American History and War is not all that great. Can someone help me understand USA Pride and Patriotism when it comes to war? Where does it come from and which wars has US been involved with and won? Just curious! Thanks

Beat the British by fluke in the war of independence but lost in 1812,Vietnam and will soon lose Iraq,it's always the British that have to bail the Americans out.

america has only ever won one war without forign help and that was against mexico, of course excluding the civil war

thats right the 1812 war was not an american victory it was a draw and you had to ask the french for help again

A better question is why are Americans afraid to say they lost the war/conflict in Vietnam? "The troops won the politicians quit" whats that? when you play a game of chess, when you lose, YOU LOSE! not the little plastic pieces on the chessboard.
It's taking America to long to realize that dialog is the best way to ensure democracy.

We won them all, but Vietnam and Korea. They were not really considered wars though.....Vietnam we ended up back where we started 10 years ealier and ended it. Korea was never officially ended. Technically we are still in a "non-war" war with North Korea.
WWI & WWII are the big ones. But there are plenty of smaller ones. Do a search for US history online.
We have pride and patriotism for our country just like everyone else in the world (well, most) have for their countries.
We consider ourselves powerful, rich and our military to be the best. And we love it when people underestimate us. History proves that.
Generally.........and I am not including Iraq in this.........we don't go looking for trouble. We defend democracy if we are asked for help. And in both world wars we were reluctant to get involved. Usually we will wait and see what happens.
If we are attacked and that doesn't happen often here (like Pearl Harbor and 9/11 NYC) we set out to destroy. And destroy we do.

Maybe this will help: "Except for ending Slavery, Fascism, Nazism, and Communism WAR has never solved anything."
What is there to understand about patriotism? Are you grateful for the blanket of freedom that protects you every night? Do you love your rights and freedoms here in America?

here are our big victories revolutionary war, War of 1812,Mexican/American war, civil war federal forces won,Spanish/American war,WW1,WW2,1991 Iraq war. The tie was Korean war. Loses include Vietnam, Iraq war 2003-present. That should cover most of it. There were various uprisings and the like all put down.
