Jesus could forsee many things (Second Coming, his death, betrayal etc). Therefore he knew he was going to die for sometime. Now I believe a martyr is an individual who is willing to die (but doesn't want to die) for their beliefs. Jesus resigned himself to death in advance. Of course this was Gods will.

I can only see 2 choices if I followed the Christian faith.

1 Jesus committed premeditated suicide, or;
2 His father murdered him

Neither. As others have said, he did not kill himself. Knowing someone's after you and wants to kill you vs. stabbing yourself in the heart are two very different things. Sacrifice cannot be considered suicide. He did not "lose his will to live" as a suicidal person would, he chose to be a sacrifice for our sins. And Jesus didn't want to die but he knew he had to for the greater good, if you read the bible one of his last phrases was "Father, if you chose, you can let this cup pass from me" (something like that) - His dad murdered him? God wasn't there nailing JC's hands either. Yes, he figured on what was going to happen because he can read men's hearts, but he's not the one who held the smoking gun. Quit trying to pass the blame. There's another scripture that talks about how just God is and how he believes in equality. Remember eye for an eye? Well, it goes something like this: "Through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin. Thus death spread to all men because they had all sinned." So if we apply the eye for an eye part, then death and sin can only be taken away by one man, who had to be perfect and therefor couldn't have started out as a sinner. That's where we get Jesus.

According to the a Gospels of Judas,( Described by some scholars as Gnostic) Jesus asked Judas to betray him, in order to be free from earthly existence and the mortal body so then being at liberty to enter the kingdom of heaven.
If your really interested, I would advise you to read the gospels of Judas with an open mind.
So it sounds to me like assisted suicide, the kind which concerns the American police force, even the cult suicides of the millennium, have a familiar ring to such biblical events.

Well that is truly a good question. And I wont be surprised if you get reported.
Jesus was a martyr that is for sure to me. Nobody wants to die. But according to the Bible He did it for our salvation. I will watch this space as it is fantastic question. The votes are gonna be more interesting than the answer for me.

You'll certainly upset the god botherers with this one... you have a point, but it is missing a few evidential things... It was the Jews who arrested him, Judas who betrayed him and the Romans who crucified him... So, lets look at the facts...
Jesus was very matey with Judas... did he tell Judas where he was planning to be that evening? in which case, he was setting the scene for his crucifixion.
Jesus did upset the Jews with some of his comments, especially declaring himself the son of God... which the Jews were a little upset about as they hadn't voted for him to be the son of God... so, he was tempting fate there.
and the Romans... Well they enjoyed a good crucifixion, and whilst they were happy for people to pray for whomever they wanted to... Jesus was getting together a formidable following (be it they were allegedly against violence)... but the Romans were against private armies... unless you were a senator, paying the bills and sending you ill gotten to Rome.. so Jesus was a bit of a protagonist there... Putting your suggestions and the evidence together.. there is a possible case for your suggestion . Debated enough?

Jesus didn't want to die, i mean think about it would you want to die? just so druggies and piss heads can take over the world?? but he knew that he had to do what his Father asked in order for our sins to be forgiven, your right in the respect that he can for see the future but that just means that he knew really that he was dying for nothing cos people just reject him!

Hmm technically I suppose you could say assisted suicide?
Depends on your religious stance.

How about, he survived (as certain historians think) and left Galilee for the East and died an old man in Afghanistan (as some historians also think) and therefore died naturally and neither suicide or assisted suicide count...??

A bodyguard that takes a bullet for someone is not commiting suicide, he is sacrificing his life. Jesus took the biggest bullet of all, but it was satan, not God who's finger was on the trigger. It was God that raised Him from the dead.

interesting. knowing you will be killed and not stopping it is not suicide, but rather relinquishing yourself to the way things are supposed to be. consider this: you know your mother will die someday, not necessarily which day, but you know she will. you don't get up and transport her to hospital immediately after this realization, do you? no. in fact you sit and wait for this realization to start taking effect before you do anything. did you set into motion the very murder of your own mother? of course not. it's just letting things go the way they are supposed to.
