...and even though she is in there right now for ovarian cancer. Already had two chemo treatments but will need at least 4 more carboplatin treatments. How much does carboplatin treatments cost (if I have to pay for it) and such? They are telling me she should go to 'another' hospital for treatments even though they are the only non-profit hospital in hundreds of miles.

I should add they are still treating her while inpatient, but they are taking legal action against her now (stupid huh?). Scared that she won't be able to get any more chemo when they discharge her. No medical insurance, doesn't qualify for social services, 4 months away from medicare.

She does not qualify for any social services in our state because she is married and not 'extremely poor' (i.e. you can only have $2,000 to your name in this state). It's really bad.

Legally they cannot refuse her treatment. They can sue her while she is in the hospital, but that is merely paper work. If she is not receiving care because of her financial situation, get a lawyer, and sue them. In the meantime, all she need tell them is that Medicare has approved her, and the ID number is pending. Every hospital HAS to take her, and give her the help she needs, regardless of her income. Call your local Community Action center to get further help, and please, even tho it is hard right now, try not to worry about her finances. If money can fix it, don't worry about it. Good Luck!!!

They can't do that, first of all.
And secondly, because she has a life threatening disease she automatically qualifies for Medicad thru the Department of Social Services. She just needs to fill out the paperwork and in most cases they will pay old bills to. Get there today and get the papers filled out!
What a bunch of jerks at that hospital! Contact the hospital administrator too and report the conversation about going elsewhere to them. Then contact your local news channel. They would love a story like this!

That's a big load of BS. Contact the American Cancer Society. They can put you in touch with sources of funding. Then contact a Legal Aid lawyer and get help with Social Security and Medicaid. Your state should have a Board of Medical Quality Assurance. I'd lay a complaint with them. Barring that I'd have Ralph Nader, Sixty Minutes, ABC and NBC down their necks. No better negative PR than the national kind.

sorry to hear whats going on but even if she was on medicare, she still has to carry a supplementtry insurance. My wife had to have a total histerectamy because of ovarian cancer. That was when she was 40. Try calling the American cancer society and see what they can do for her. no harm in calling the most they can say is that they can't help. but I doubt that.

Go to your local media or news station......you are going to have to get the news people interested in this. The hospital will not want negative press. Also, call you local legal advice office. Many lawyers work not for profit and would love to help. The best to your mom and hang in there! (you sound like a great son!)
