We are not stupid, we just feel a need to be connected to something bigger than ourselves. To feel a sense of importance and purpose. Some can't see that we ourselves are the purpose, and turn instead to religion. It allows people to feel a sense of belonging, purpose and helps them deal with their own inadequacies by relying on someone else for help and guidance. Religion is not, in and of itself, a bad thing. When it is used to promote hope, tolerance, philanthropy and to open one's mind, it can be a great asset to society. So many people are so frightened by their own reliegious beliefs, however, that they act irrationally and against the spirit of these beliefs in a way that is intolerant and can be very detremental to society.

I wouldn't say stupid. I'll be adult enough to admit that Im scared of dying. I'd like to hold on to the fact that when I die I will remember the love I had for my children and my husband. Even if the Christians are right and I'm burning in hell it would be so much better than to lose all the memories I have. It breaks my heart everytime I think that I won't remember their first laugh, first steps, first time saying I love you mommy. Is it such a crime to want to remember your family??? Selfish maybe stupid no.

I dont have religion, so to answer your question. Yes many are fooled into Religion, but theres is something more.... its a personal relationship with Christ Jesus, its not religion, its a personal relationship with Him. There is so much proff outside of the Bible that backs up Christ as the Messiah. I suggest getting the book "The Case for Faith" by Lee Strobel, and "The Case for Christ" by Lee Strobel. These are books for the analytical mind. I have a very analytical mind and i read these and it all made sense to me. These books show the facts, historically, scientifically, and biblically. It never hurts to see for yourself. God bless you.

I don't think people are fooled into religion so much as they are scared into it. We have a built in desire to seek pleasure and avoid suffering. Religion uses this to say unless you do exactly as they say and think exactly as they demand that God will torture you forever in hell.

Here is a question for you how many people follow a religion only because they are not wanting to go to a hell?

your god is soon to arrive, and you will bow down and worship him, that is If the TRUE GOD does not come into your heart, He will you know...all you have to do is ask...
I on the other hand will offer him(satan/the deceiver/the one who will come and say he is god) my head in a basket...Then I will GLORIFY GOD...ABBA FATHER.
you probably have no Idea what ABBA FATHER even means.
well, quite literally it means, DADDY.
My Daddy has many great things in store for me.
In this lifetime and in the afterlife, in PARADISE.
I do so hope that HE blesses you with compassion and understanding, as well as forgiveness for whoever it was that hurt you.
Or that He will one day allow your soul to rest and understand that He calls everyone home each at their own time, meaning if you are mad at Him because you lost a friend or loved one, to ...DEATH...
They are safe with Him in His Glorious Kingdom...AWAITING YOUR SAFE ARRIVAL.
AMEN...

The necessity of us to believe in a Superior Being is part of the spirit that longs since the separation from God in Eden. Us being sinners feel that absenteeism that needs to be full filled somehow. Those that don't think they should praise a God, become egocentric, and thus praise themselves, as if they were gods. But is all part of the same spirit, that came from God in his blow to Adam in Eden, in this manner, confusing as it is, we are all part of God, and some misinterpret it, thinking we are all gods.

unfortunately it is true, we suffer from mass hysteria. fear plays a big part of it. the emotional brain is strong but fragile for some. we are still evolving as a species... I think with time we'll get it right if we can survive long enough :)

You should be asking, "What's the deal with religion? since so many people believe or follow something maybe there IS something behind all of it?"
