Real butter will spoil in a matter of hours. Margarine will last about a day.

I leave a stick of butter out during the winter when it's chilly, and I've usually used it within 10 days. But in the summer, I keep it in the fridge.

I like my butter soft for spreading, so I leave a stick out for days until its gone. As long as you have one those butter trays with a top it should be ok.

I always leave butter out (a stick at a time of course), otherwise it doesn't spread!

If it's warm/hot in your home maybe a few hours to half day at max. If it's cool inside you could easily leave it out for a day or two.
