You won't find a single native-born American who wouldn't run charging into battle to defend the Brits. It may take us a while (there's an ocean in the way, after all), but you better believe we'll get there eventually.
To dougiebhoy: We may be stupid, but we do know how to tell Brits from other Europeans. We just ask "excuse me, do you think it's okay for an employer to fire an underperforming employee?" If they say "Hell Yeah!", we know they're American. If they say "Why yes, I would think so.", we know they're a Brit. If they say "No", "No", "No", "Non", or "Nien", and proceed to argue for a ridiculously inefficient employment law that protects slacker parasites at the expense of motivated immigrants and recent college graduates, we know they're from the continent.
(Just kidding, Europe... you know we love you.)

It would be nice if they would AGAIN. It's a shame that we are surrounded by Eurotrash on our Island and we need their help.
Edit:
Archangel below forgets how pathetic Euroland was just a few years ago when it came to dealing with the conflict in the former Yugoslavia. If America hadn't intervened we could have world war three in Europe. Europe has NOT learned from it's bloody history.

They did in World War I and II. They would definitely help, they wouldn't want to see a destabilised Europe or one under dictatorship of some kind.

When I moved to the UK a few years ago, I was shocked at how much you guys make fun of Americans. It gets really old. So, one day I said to my roommate, "Is all you people do make fun of Americans?" and he said, "Like you guys don't do the same thing to us in the US."
I tell that story to Americans and they find it hilarious. British people often don't get it: NO, we don't do that!
But darn it, even though you people annoy the crap out of me, you know we'd have your back!

That will never happen, for the Europeans have seen how devastating warfare can be, and have acknowledged that there is little, if anything to be gained by fighting wars. As Americans have not seen warfare on their home soil since 1865, war is still something that is not completely understood.
But, for the sake of such a ludicrous hypothetical situation: I would support sending aid to help Great Britain, provided that they were the victims of aggression. If the British were the aggressors and were inciting conflict without a justifiable reason, I would not want to help them.

Perhaps the British but not any others. I think that this will become an issue when the Muslims try to regain Spain. Good luck to them

Yes, it's the European country that Americans like best since our language and many of our customs originated in England.
