Peter.

Peter is considered the first Pope, or leader of Christianity. Jesus gave Peter the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven and told him to found his church.

Simon Peter

I feel he was grooming Peter from the start. Peter was a born leader, and very often put his foot in his mouth, but Jesus was very attentive to him.

Jesus reprimanded Peter more than any other disciple, and guided him and worked with him.

Definitely Peter.

All of the 11 disciples (Judas had hung himself by now), were to lead the other followers after Jesus ascended into heaven.

How could he appoint anyone if he was dead? He was crucified, you just said.
