Even with people who have experience with immigration, they think that it is the illegal immigrants fault for the wait times of the legal immigrants. They say that immigration is to busy focusing on the demands tht the illegal immigrants are making, when in reality, the people in the immigration office that process the paperwork have nothing to do with the demands of the illegal immigrants. It is congress that has to deal with deciding what if anything they are going to do about the illegal immigrants demands. It is congress that makes the laws that immigration is supposed to enforce. However, they have a whole different section of people who do search and captures and what not of the illegal immigrants, and they have nothing to do with those that process the paperwork.
The backlog of paperwork has always been. The immigration offices do not have enough people to process the paperwork, then since 9-11 they requirements of paperwork have grown to a crazy level, and that has just added to the time.
Even if amnesty was created for the illegal immigrants that are here now, that does not put them to the front of the line for those that are waiting legally. Immigration papers when received are stamped with the date, and then they are handed out to the different workers, then they are worked on in order of receipt.

The government does decide how long legal immigrants have to wait but how are they supposed to spend time on that when illegal immigrants are coming here demanding amnesty and making a big fuss? Illegal immigration is such a hot topic right now that government is under pressure to do something about the illegal immigration, while legal immigrants get forgotten about.

I am trying to sponsor my brother in law. They want more proof than they did before,they questioned the fact that my huband and him have different last names,and the waiting period is going to be longer. If they weren't so busy worrying about the illegal immigrant situation,they would probably be able to process his paperwork faster.

The illegals have nothing to do with the wait time. They are ruining it for the legal immigrants because they have done everything by the book, and if they give amnesty to the illegals, it would make all their efforts of abiding by the law worthless, and citizenship meaningless.
