6000 years old. Men who analyzed the Bible, guessed at time periods, and took the 7 day Creation as a LITERAL 7 days estimate it to be 6000 years old. God never said it, Jesus never said it, the Bible never said it.
Now, can we accept MEN came up with the number, and give God a little credit, that it is possible the world IS as old as Science dates it, as God himself never told us exactly how old it was?
Anyone agree?

Thanks for the report. It is a question, but if you feel the need to pick on me, I suggest you report every other question on the board for the same reason. Have a good day Rose Petal!

No problem. Only how can I consider the world to be as old as "science" dates it when I don't know how old "science" dates it today? Every couple of years or so I read an article in a newspaper or a magazine telling me that "science" has just discovered that it was all wrong: the earth is actually so many hundred million years older (or younger) than they thought it was. Personally, I can't help thinking there is a farcical aspect to that. Especially when every time science changes its mind, nobody is allowed to question "science", or they will be branded as ignoramus.
EDIT:
Don't worry, if Rose Petal had reported you, your question would have been taken off. She is just trying to get your goat.

By using the geneologies given in the Bible, one can calculated the time elapsed to or from a known occurence.
That said, the measure can only be taken from the 6th day, ie the creation of man. How long the first 5 plus days actually were are truly irrelavent, but clearly the account of those first 5+ days are not intended to be taken literally.

I guess if you're asking to agree with the date of scientists, ok. I do, because we've all put our heads together on this one, and have used carbon dating methods and other such to come up with the figures we have.
Seven days in the Bible are not literal. But, the Jews followed a cloud by day, and fire by night across the land. A true God would not need to disguise himself. Therefore, the Bible is not all factual.

God's time is not the time of this universe... time is a fuction God put in place as part of what controles the universe... how long it Took God, or takes God, to do anything is not mans concern. What we do with what God has given us is what we should be concerned with.
all science is from God. Mankind has yet to understand even a small % of God's Science. Mankind is more bent on mucking up whan we have by missusing God's science. If science were properly applied all of mankind would be living in peace and plenty.

This figure is derived by looking at the genelogies listed in the Bible. However, some of the genealogies skip generations. So we can't know for sure how old the earth is. It can be anywhere from 6,000 to 10,000. You also have to remember that in Jesus' time that didn't keep of the years like we did. For example to them, there wasn't a B.C. or an A.D.

by saying god did it in 7 literal days, (times the earth made full revolution about its axis - approx. 24 hours) is holding god to OUR definition of time. if christians claim god is beyond time why do we hold him to this? can a day not symbolize a passing of a period of time? perhaps 1000 years or a million? would it really be far fetched to believe that god said day to make it easy for man to understand his power? wouldnt the bible sound funny if it said, and on the one millionth year and first day god created... and on the two millionth year and first day god created...
u think men back then could concieve that idea?

the kind of the Earth "He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and its everyone looks like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a cover, and spreads them out like a tent to stay in," (Isaiah 40:22, NIV). this may or would no longer be construed to help the round structure of the earth. The horizon is a circle and a circle is flat. there is not any Hebrew be conscious for round, Circle is quiet adequate

I disagree. I believe the Bible is fairly clear as to how much time has past. Are you ready for the evidence?
The first 20 generations are given in clear detail in Genesis chapters 5, 7, 11, and 21. It is simple math to follow the passage of time--for each individual we are told his age at the birth of his son, and then the son's age at the birth of his son, etc. Starting with Adam, leading to Abraham, we have just over 2000 years.
Then we are given a record in Exodus 12:40 of the descendants of Abraham passing 400 years in Egypt. Then in 1 Kings 6:1 we are told that 480 years after they left Egypt, Solomon began building his temple. From Solomon's son Rehoboam to the last of the kings of Judah we have about 400 years. (You have to read through all of the years of the kings' reigns.) Then 70 years in Babylonian captivity for the Israelites. That takes us to about 600 years before Christ. From then until now we have about 2000 years. The total comes to just almost exactly 6000 years from Creation until the Present.

The Bible states that a day is like 1000 years to the Lord. What does the Earth's age matter? No one human will be able to tell us that anyway. Man is full of flaws and errors ... I say don't put your trust in man. Look to God for the truth He allows us to have.

The Bible points out 6 days that appear to BE 24 hr days because of the sunrising and setting on each day so it isnt a long shot to say it is 24 hr days. It would be however if the sunrise and sunsets were never mentioned.
