My girlfriend is fixing vegetable soup, but has made it too tomatoey. I have heard that potatoes can be added to some things to absorb excess salt. Is there any such trick to absorb tomato flavor?

Add more vegetables and broth or water.

The potato trick does not absorb very much salt.

In the superstore, fruits are usually picked out much too soon. Some are rocks, many are bad. Some of the fresh vegetables are generally right (zucchini, onions, garlic, lettuce, greens, and a few others) so I'd have to go with vegetables.

You can offset the overpowering tomato flavor by adding beef or chicken broth or stock.
