Even though it can make security a little more hectic, buy him his own kid size wheeled carry-on luggage. He will think he is so cool.
Fill with little toys he loves, crayons, coloring books, little cars, his favorite bear/lovie, snacks, at least one change of clothes/socks, pajamas & toothbrush. That way even if your luggage is lost, he will have a few things to keep him occupied and clothed.
Go to the airlines website for guidance, but most little non-violent toys will be allowed on the plane.
Have fun, and make sure you tell the greeters on the plane, its his first trip. Lots of times that will treat him extra special if it is.

I got to travel many times with both my son when he was 5.
Bring gum and something for him to drink in a cup that has a top.
My son, now 6, always cried when we were descending because
his ears hurt really bad but he couldn't understand how to clear them. The gum or getting him involved with drinking something really helped.
As far as entertaining things to do, I bought a portable DVD player and always took 2-3 movies. He spent more time watching the movies then he did playing with the toys or drawing.
But, I would also take some hot wheel type small toys and an age-appropriate activity book. Remember to bring pencils, pens, markers and crayons also!
Have Fun!!!

that's a solid theory. perhaps a gameboy or some thing like that too? you may get gameboy advances low-fee because of the fact they're previous. Sucking chocolates and lollipops are a solid one to help with ear popping, because of the fact on the returned of your throat there are 2 tubes, each and each connecting to the interior of an ear. I commonly use chewing gum yet i do no longer think of which could be too solid for a 4 three hundred and sixty 5 days previous. attempt to discover sugar loose ones although, because of the fact in any different case he might get hyper. perhaps some superb trump taking part in cards too? A colouring e book and colouring crayons shoud be solid besides.

Let him have the window seat. Bring plenty of books and games without too many pieces to keep him occupied. Ask the flight attendant when you get on if she or he will allow you to show your son the cockpit and say hello to the pilots. Make it a big adventure for him.

depending on how long the flight is and what time of day or night you're leaving, make sure you have something for him to do. Perhaps coloring books if he likes to color or draw. I would also check with your airline to see what they will and won't allow you to bring on the flight you know with all the restrictions there are these days. Maybe bring along a couple books to read to him. Hope you have a great flight.

I flew with my kids several times. When one of my kids was 5, my other one was just turning 1. Nowadays, you cant have any carry on bags so You really have to check the airlines to see if they provide anything for kids.

Yes make sure you take some bubble gum and have him chew it hard while taking off and landing. When going up it can make your ears pop which hurts and can make kids start to cry and fuss. Its easier to give them the gum and not have the popping ears.

A hefty dose of Benadryl for him and 2 whiskey shots for you. Safety-pin your money to your waistband and enjoy the flight.
