5000 years i believe

It depends if you are a "young earth" believer or an "old earth" believer. New earthers believe the earth was created about 6,000 years ago.

Old earthers believe the earth could be much older, even millions of years older but that time cannot be determined by the Bible. A lot of undetermined time could have existed between verses 1 and 2 in Genesis 1. As a believer, I subscribe to the "old earth" theory.

I feel it gives no specific time for the earth to have been around. It was definitely around for a while before most other things were created. Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
2 Now the earth was [a] formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.

And then God created light... but there is no time given for how long the Heavens and Earth were void and formless... may have been eons, may have been a few days. I think any time frame is possible.

Using the Genealogies places it somewhere around 6000 years old. There are a few periods that are unclear, but that wouldn't add up to much. Here is an article that gives some information...

Now here's something interesting. There is something special about the number 7. It has a quality that God likes because he uses that number repeatedly.

There were 7 days of creation. 6 of toil and work and 1 to rest.
That's the model for our work week. 6 days of work and 1 day of rest.

Well the Bible says that after the Tribulation, Jesus will reign on earth for his Millennial reign or 1000 year reign. If you look at the age of the earth now, you have about 6000 years (of work / toil). It seems reasonable to me, especially when weighed with all the other prophecy being fulfilled, that we are rapidly approaching the 1000 years of 'rest' or the Millennial reign of Jesus Christ!

Are you ready?

Somewhere around 6,000-10,000 years. There are periods of time that the Bible is "silent" on but you can gather from the ages of the different generations that it is at least 6,000 years old but no where near the millions of years scientists think it to be.

Some Christian arguments to carbon dating is that after the flood, the water altered the remains of any animals so much that it appears in tests to be much older than it really is. As for the earth itself, some believe that when God created the Earth, he created it as an aged planet and not a brand-new one.

Science generally presents the age of the earth to be somewhere around 4.5 billion years old.

The bible on the other hand, when analyzed, puts the earth at around 6 thousand years old.

its hard to tell because in 3500 BC adam was said to still be living and he lived for about 1,000 years (like 900 something) and so that makes 4500 BC when he was "made" right? so my question is how can people say the bible is right when the earliest human is 3 million years old and then 60 something million years ago there were dinosaurs, who was here before adam??? but anyways to actually answer your question the earth is estimated around 5 billion years old (scientific answer not a bible answer)

The Bible does not say. Genesis 1:1 says "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth."

The Biblical "days" of creation did not begin until after verse 1, thus allowing for its existance for billions of years.

The Bible is not an almanac. There is no way to determine the age of the earth from it. The oriental concept of time is different from ours.

The Bible does not say, but MEN who have studied what time frame they believe in all to have happened estimate 6000 years. MEN say that, not the bible itself, wich is an important point to remember.
