bmw 5 series or the lexus gs?? not sure which is better?

i need opinions on which one to get. i can afford both bc they are both in the same price range. this is a car for my dad me & my brother are planning to get him.

bmw has free maintenance for 4yrs 50k miles. but u might have to put up with the i drive..

being that its for ur dad. he may prefer the
Lexus its tuned more towards luxury.. the BMW is more sport but it still has a creamy ride...

The BMW probably will have the i-drive (avoid this if possible), which tends to drive people that are not real technical nuts (it is just one large button/knob that you turn and push to get the car to do various things like turn on the heat or the radio). BMW's also hold their value really well, and are still considered the best blends of ride and handling. If he likes to hustle around turns I would say get the BMW.

The Lexus is beautifully put together, and will run good as new for the next 10 years. The car magazines harp about an overly intrusive stability control that cuts power too early. But unless he is driving it really hard, will probably never notice it. They also ride very well and are very quiet.

Looks are an issue as well, people either love or hate the way the BMW looks. The Lexus is generally considered a good looking car, if not a little on the conservative side styling wise. The engines are also a factor, the base BMW 225hp inline 6 is a little weak for a big car (sluggish off the line). The 260hp version is better, and of course the V8's are superb. If it comes down to it and the Lexus can be had at the same price with a V8 and the BMW is a 6 cylinder, get the Lexus.

I would prefer the Lexus GS. I like luxury and I know for a fact that it is a very reliable car.
