Hi!

Purchase some bottles of acrylic paints. They come in some really pretty colors, with all sorts of pearly, golden tones and look superfab . Rather than blue, say , there might be a pearlescent blue .... your whole set of paints might be like that (pearly) which will give it a magical, pretty look.

Be sure to draw your designs on paper first. Get some drawing equipment like rulers and tape and a compass if you are making
circles... also, there are stencils that are nice, with hearts and stars.... and, unless you are good at painting in a name with a brush (which is not so easy) it would be good to get a stencil
with letters of the alphabet. To use a stencil, put a guide line where the letters are to go, use the stencil to place the letters right on the line, then fill in with paint.

It is nice to draw little objects .... like trees, stars, clouds, etc ...
and then to give the entire scene a "frame" by drawing lines an inch or two above the floor line, one to parallel that on top of the chest, and then join the two with lines on either side of the chest.

It takes time to fill in lines... it is boring, and you need to keep your brush full of paint so the line is even .... but be patient with it and you will not be sorry ...

Also, there are spray paints that look pretty ... you could turn the
chest on its back, hold a can (well-shaken) of spray silver, for
example, about four feet above the surface and let the mist
drop onto the scene after you are finished.... it's rather like shaking confectioner's sugar over your cake.

Try not to do anything difficult ... simple things nicely painted are the best.

except you utilize lacquer lower back, that's going to be complicated to get yet another variety of paint to adhere with out sanding almost all the lacquer off, employing a reliable high quality primer, after which a hide coat. removing the lacquer will pass speedier in case you need to use a "paint" remover first after which sanding. Any technique will artwork for employing the hide or precise coat(s).

I'am not a paint expert but if it is a latex paint on it now you would have to use a latex or vice vera oil paint on a oil paint.
